Gillette Moves From Manscaping To Music With Shave Like A Rock Star

Gillette and Greenlight Media Group are launching a new micro site called Shave Like A Rock Star as a follow up to their fun animated "manscaping" site. The new site will feature a short film series by acclaimed rock photographer and documentary video maker Danny Clinch.

The site and short films will take you through the minds of some of the world’s biggest artists moments before they take the stage and get an intimate look at their pre-show rituals.

"Music has always been a platform as an opportunity to connect with guys," company representative Mike Norton tells Marketing Daily. "There are things that guys are passionate about and music is one of them."

The short films (or videos) will feature Will.I.Am, Mark Hoppus, the All-American Rejects, and Tim McGraw as they overcome last minute jitters and get ready to face the music.

The films were intentionally created not to look like traditional advertising. Enlisting Clinch, who has filmed documentaries and videos of artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and The Foo Fighters, was key to that approach. "The format we came together with is not a commercial format," Norton says. "[Clinch] is so authentic in the music space that he keeps it very real."

Gillette will promote the series through print ads in Spin magazine as well as through online partnerships with Spin.com, Pandora.com, Last.fm and YouTube.com. In addition, Gillette has partnered with Fuse TV to air the videos on the network sometime in the future, Norton says.

The site will go live later this month.

American Apparel Launches Nail Lacquers

It's not enough for them to dominate the t-shirt market, sell bras, panties, sweaters, leggings, dresses, bathing suits, bodysuits, hosiery, bedding, robes, pet collars and dog clothes, an expanded children's line, button down shirts, accessories and even vintage sunglasses.. now, American Apparel has entered into the beauty industry with the launch of their own nail polish.

The 18 colored Nail Lacquers are in expected trendy bright colors and sell for $6.00 a bottle or can be purchased in 3 packs for $15.00

American Apparel is a vertically integrated manufacturer, distributor and retailer, based in downtown Los Angeles, California. They currently employ approximately 10,000 people globally (about 5,000 in LA), and operate more than 260 retail stores in 19 countries.

Within their business model, knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, photography, marketing, distribution, and design all happen in the company's facilities in Los Angeles. The company operates the largest garment factory in the United States, at a time when most apparel production has moved offshore. With their recently opened stores in China, they are now selling Made in USA clothing in the largest consumer market in the world.

American Apparel leverages art, design and technology to advance the business process, while continuing to pioneer industry standards of social and environmental responsibility in the workplace.

The Trendy-Tub: Recycled Storage Containers Become Furniture & More

The latest creation from Gérard Dumora and Jacqueline Lauth of Pacific Art Design is a smart and artful repurposing of basic cardboard and galvanized steel tubs.

The Trendy-Tub®, made in France, is an example of functional and fun eco design. Basically, it is a barrel made of a very resistant type of cardboard, encircled by two metal-rings and a lid made of galvanized metal.

The factory, from which Trendy-Tub buys the barrels, used to recycle the lids only because it is difficult to recycle products made of two materials - you have to separate them and it's a costly process for which you need special machines. This is the moment that Trendy-Tub intervenes by buying the barrels that once served only for transporting flour.

The barrels are like new, sometimes with little defects on the lid, which they easily fix by using a hammer.

The tubs are then decorated. Wrapped in a specially printed paper (the type used for billboards) and offered in two sizes. The designs are endless; Graffiti, Steampunk, Pop Art, Retro, Manga, Surf art, Baroque, Floral, Animal Prints, Plaids and so much more. Plus, you can create your own custom ones.

Here are a few examples to show you how varied the styles of art are:

The dimensions of the Trendy-Tub are perfect for either a chair or table. The small version has a height of 44.5 cm, a diameter of 41.5 cm and weighs only 3.9 kg. The big version is 74 cm high, has a diameter of 46 cm and weighs 5 kg. Both dimensions correspond to the standard-heights of seats and tables.

The Trendy-Tub® can be used in multiple ways: storage (dry dog food, laundry basket, cushions, blankets, etcetera), seat, table (bedside, console table, pedestal table). It's useful and decorative and finds a place anywhere, even in small interiors. They can transform the tub into furniture as well; coffee table, dining table, shelves and even pendant lamps.

Below is their booth at Maison et Object show in September, 2009

In addition to the simple tubs, they have turned the lids into clocks:

and wall art:

and chairs and tables:

and storage or shelving:

Pendant lamps and floor seats, all made from the same recycled tubs:

When the barrels arrive in their warehouse, they decorate them using “trendy” wallpapers or designs from artists, which they print on a special type of paper (used for outside-advertising posters).

Below are three very different examples of artwork available.

The choice of designs is huge, as mentioned above, and can be categorized in different collections: off-beat, humorous, artistic, childish, romantic, etc... and they can even customize your Trendy-Tub® with your own photos or logos. They also offer a raw-version.
