A Very Moving Olympics Ad You'll Probably Never See, But Ought To.
This simple but powerful minute long Olympics commercial created by BBDO New York for their client Guinness Beer, illustrates the power of words.
Poetic TV Ads For Visa and Apple Borrow From Dead Legends.
Two new spots, both of whom quote deceased legends in their copy - Visa quoting Amelia Earhart and Apple double quoting (from the movie "Dead Poet's Society" in which there is a quote from Walt Whitman) - have recently broken on American television. Beautiful and inspiring cinematography accompany the goose-bump inducing copy in both spots.
Visa Olympics "Flying"
This lovely and inspiring spot is the first major work from BBDO since the agency, which lost Visa as a client in 2005, won back the lead creative duties from TBWA Chiat/Day in September, 2012.
The commercial celebrates Sarah Hendrickson and the Olympic debut of Women's Ski Jumping with the words of a great woman who loved to fly.
The social media segment will use the hashtag #everywhere; a sample post for the Visa Facebook page, referring to the Hendrickson spot, reads: "That's her #everywhere. Imagine yours." They further encourage you to "Get inspired with more athlete content at visa.tumblr.com."
Apple, iPad Air "Your Verse"
With a voiceover by Robin Williams taken directly from the movie "Dead Poet's Society", this one and a half minute spot from TBWA\Media Arts Lab combines the features and use of the iPad with stunning imagery and ends with "The powerful play goes on, but you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" asks the campaign.
They then encourage you to share your own "verse" at http://www.apple.com/your-verse/
An Up-Close Look At Damien Hirst's Spin Flag For The Olympic Closing Ceremonies.
Artist Damien Hirst’s giant interpretation of the union jack flag filled the entire floor of the Olympic Stadium as part of the magnificent celebration of the arts in Britain.
In recognition of his central role to British art, a specially commissioned work by Hirst was included as part of the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. The colossal 130 meter wide red, white and blue spin painting covered the entirety of the Stadium floor and was filled with the celebrating Olympic athletes as they entered the arena. It is the largest reproduction of a Hirst piece ever produced.
The work, entitled ‘Beautiful Union Jack Celebratory Patriotic Olympic Explosion in an Electric Storm Painting’ (2012), was described by the Olympic committee as epitomising, “the dynamic, anarchic energy of British Pop Art.” It forms part of Hirst’s iconic series of spin paintings dating from the early 90s. Originally inspired by spin stalls at school fĂȘtes, Hirst describes the paintings as a, “massive explosion of energy, full of life, colour and optimism”.
A selection of key spin paintings, including a collection which rotate mechanically in eternal replication of their fabrication process, can currently be seen at Tate Modern’s major ‘Damien Hirst’ exhibition, on display for the Olympic period until September 9th.
Under Artistic Director Kim Gavin, the Closing Ceremony – entitled ‘A Symphony of British Music’ – was a celebration both of the achievements of athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and the significance of Britain’s contribution to the international art and music scene over the last 50 years. Since Hirst first came to public attention in 1988, when he conceived and curated ‘Freeze’, an exhibition in a disused London warehouse of his own work and that of his contemporaries, he has become widely recognised as one of the most influential and renowned artists of his generation. Hirst's contribution is acknowledged by Tate Modern's staging of the largest survey of his work to date in the UK as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympics.

The GO WORLD ad campaign for VISA continues, but now with a cool icy blue winter look and a warm approach. The campaign breaks with a new TV commercial, still using the fabulous Morgan Freeman as the voice-over:
In addition, they are promoting using your VISA card for a chance to win a trip to the Winter Games:
The website, which just launched yesterday, intimately introduces us to five competing athletes; Linsdey Jacobellis, Julia Mancuso, Ryan St. Onge, Angela Ruggiero, and Alexi Salamone, whose inspirational stories are told through nicely produced beautiful training videos, photo stills and more.

Waterproof Six-packs: "Guess the Olympic Swimmer's Abs" Is My Kind Of Game
Go ahead, tell me I'm practicing a double standard. That I'm shallow and contributing to sexism. It's completely true.... the Ab Fab slide show from NBC's Olympics website is totally sexist. But awfully yummy and nice eye candy as well as a test of your visual acuity for muscular chests. And if most female athletes actually had breasts or butts, we could play "guess the gymnast's tits" or "guess the volleyball player's butts." Actually, guess the Olympic female athlete's legs would be a good one.....
But I transgress. back to the yumminess at hand:
