Kevin Bacon Recreates Footloose Entrance on Tonight Show 30 Years Later

Footloose kevin 30 years later hero IIHIHFootloose kevin 30 years later 2 IIHIH

This is epic. The fabulous Kevin Bacon recreates, step by step, his 'Footloose' entrance on NBC's The Tonight Show after Jimmy proclaims that dancing has been outlawed by NBC. In addition to sharing the 3 and a half minute video with you, I simply had to make some screen grabs so you can see the details, because the whole thing is so hilariously done.

Footloose dancing outlawed IIHIH

Beginning in the dressing room Kevin hears the news, exclaims "Jump back", immediately pops a cassette into the wall (nice throwback), his feet start to move, he takes a drag on a cigarette, swigs a beer and begins to dance his way down the corridor to the show's entrance stage.

Even the interior barn gymnastics scene is recreated (undoubtedly with a stunt man).

NBS staffers then join in the fun as he dons a burgundy tux and they all dance their way onstage.

The cult classic movie Footloose is celebrating 30 years since its release.
Just another reason to love Kevin Bacon.

True Detective a la Hardy Boys Book Covers by Todd Spence

Self-proclaimed Geek art illustrator and editor of Break.com, Todd Spence, created these fabulous mash-ups of the two main characters from HBO's True Detective, Rustin Cohle (Matt McConaughy) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) with vintage Hardy Boys Detective novels.

The results are friggen' fabulous.

A shout out to my friend Fred Dekker for turning me onto these.

All 5 Of The Brian Williams Rap Mash-Ups Including The Epic Rapper's Delight.

I posted this on Faceboook a few minutes after it aired Wednesday night because I was so impressed with it. Apparently, I'm not alone -  it was the number one trending item on Facebook all day Thursday. So, for those of you who have not been watching Jimmy Fallon's first week as host of The Tonight show, I will share it with you.

You may not know that this was not the first mash-up with NBC Nightly News managing editor and anchor Brian Williams edited to appear as though he were rapping. Although the previous versions were not as seamlessly done nor were they nearly as funny. The Brian Williams Gangster Rapper feature became somewhat of a running gag on Jimmy's Late Show with versions to Warrne G, Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch, N.W.A. and Snoop Dogg.

Aired feb 14, 2013
NBC Nightly News managing editor and anchor Brian Williams raps The Sugar Hill Gang's classic "Rapper's Delight" -- and, yes, he brought two friends along:

Prior to this epic one, there were these four - albeit not quite as well done.

The first one aired on June 5th, 2013:
Brian Williams Rapping Snoop Dogg's verse from the classic Dr. Dre song "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang.":

Followed by this one on June 6th, 3013:
Brian Williams Raps Warren G's "Regulate"

The third one aired on June 7th, 2013:
Brian Williams Raps N.W.A's "Straight Outta Compton":

and then on Jul 29, 2013 was this one:
Brian Williams Raps Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's hit "Good Vibrations.":

Perhaps now that Jimmy Fallon is hosting The Tonight Show, more eyeballs are seeing them. But he has many more tricks up sleeve and I'm looking forward to them.

UPDATED: Dumb Starbucks Opens In Los Angeles, Making A Latte Fun Of The Original.

UPDATED 2/11 : Despite earlier reports that graphic designer and artist Marc Horowitz was behind the pop up parody coffee shop, the Los Angeles Times reports that it is actually the brainchild of comedian Nathan Fielder.

Yes, it's true. A faux Starbucks coffee shop named Dumb Starbucks opened in the hipster hood of Los Feliz yesterday to long lines of curious coffee-craving crowds.

With Dumb Cups, Dumb Cafe Umbrellas and even Dumb Music, the strip mall satirical store has a menu that features “Dumb Iced Coffee,” “Dumb Frappuccinos,” and a seasonal “Wuppy Duppy Latte.”

According to a Frequently Asked Questions flyer posted on the door (shown below), the people behind “Dumb Starbucks” are using “parody law” to get around what appears to be blatant copyright infringement.“ By adding the word ‘dumb,’ we are technically ‘making fun’ of Starbucks, which allows us to use their trademarks under a law known as ‘fair use,’” the notice reads.

The parody store, located at 1802 Hillhurst Ave. was giving away free coffee and pastries to those who had to wait longer than an hour yesterday.

The Associated Press reports that "Starbucks says it's trying to contact the people responsible for a "Dumb Starbucks" store that set up shop in Los Angeles this weekend."

"We are aware of this store, and it is not affiliated with Starbucks," spokeswoman Laurel Harper said in an email Monday. "We are evaluating next steps, and while we appreciate the humor, they cannot use our name, which is a protected trademark."

She adds that the vast majority of trademark disputes "are handled informally," suggesting the company will not need to take legal action. - AP

I Think I Am In Friend-Love With Yumi Sakugawa's New Book.

I have a confession to make.
I think I am in Friend-Love with you.

What's friend-love?
It's that super-awesome bond you share with someone who makes you happy every time you text each other, or meet up for an epic outing. It's not love-love. You don't want to swap saliva; you want to swap favorite books. But it's just as intense and just as amazing.

I Think I Am In Friend-Love With You is one of the sweetest little books I've ever seen and would make a fabulous Valentine's Day gift for anyone with a BFF (of the same sex or opposite gender).

Originally published online in Sadie Magazine in 2012, comic-book strip artist Yumi Sakugawa's charming illustrated tale has been published as a hardcover book by Adams Media.

The 128 page book is perfect if you've ever fallen in friend-love and want to show that person how much you love them...in a platonic way, of course.

PRAISE FOR I THINK I AM IN FRIEND-LOVE WITH YOU

"Look around. You won’t find anything sweeter than this lonely little book anywhere in your immediate vicinity. Unless for some reason there’s, like, a bunny knitting a scarf for a puppy. That might be sweeter. Aside from that, this book is definitely your best bet." —Avery Monsen, coauthor of K is for Knifeball and All My Friends Are Dead

"This is one of my favorite comics ever, a sweet ode to platonic love that will echo through the ages." —MariNaomi, author of Kiss & Tell

"Funny and beautifully drawn, I Think I Am In Friend-Love With You is the bittersweet tale of friendships in the age of social media in which many can relate.” —Esther Pearl Watson, author of Unlovable

"The warmth of Yumi’s soft brushstrokes and vulnerability of her words make me feel less alone in this weird world. I think I am in book-love." —Lisa Hanawalt, author of My Dirty Dumb Eyes

"Yumi Sakugawa’s small, sweet hardcover I Think I am in Friend-Love With You (Adams Media) feels so necessary. Sakugawa’s one-eyed, vaguely socklike protagonist fantasizes a future of book-swapping, Tumblr post–reblogging, coffee-sipping platonic love, but reveals the most simple of needs in the book’s simple black-and-white illustrations.” - Bitch Magazine

“I Think I am In Friend Love With You…chronicles a bashful cyclops with a good old fashioned friend crush. Sakaguwa’s comics, while being hilarious, are imbued with a quiet magic that somehow makes a glowing computer screen as ripe with beauty and mystery as a night sky full of twinkling stars.” - Huffington Post Arts

The comic…expresses all the delightful, little things we hope our best…pals will do for us…. [Yumi’s] work has an eerie, wondrous quality to it, blipped with panels that will make your heart soar and dip and soar again. Themes of space and love pull readers into a pensive world of fantastical creatures.” - NPR’s Code Switch
