Creepy Space Age Film for Prada: The Future Of Flesh Directed by Luke Gilford

Commissioned by Prada for their Autumn/Winter ’13 collection, Los Angeles-based writer, director & photographer Luke Gilford collaborated with Document Journal, actress Jane Fonda, and Jake Shears, formerly of Scissor Sisters, to create an chilling space-age short film, entitled The Future of Flesh.

The blog, One small seed writes "With Jake Shears’ eerie music score creating an almost sci-fi horror atmosphere, Gilford – in only just over a minute – manages to indulge us in a discourse of age, mimicry, the future and and high fashion. Faces elongated and latex as skin, the models are far from stereotypical in their aesthetic, perhaps serving as a metaphor for Prada’s new collection: typically that there is nothing mediocre or ordinary when it comes to Prada. The director also opens up the discussion of the industry moving past traditional standards of beauty, allowing room for new intellectual thought processes and denying the age-old idea of fashion being equivalent to mindlessness."

The New York Times Magazine reports that 'The eerie, evocative video features an original score by Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters and is narrated by Jane Fonda — not coincidentally, another complicated feminist icon. While the clip is not the usual terrain for Fonda, she was easily convinced to lend her voice.'

“When Jake asked me to collaborate on the video I thought, For Jake, anything. He’s so out-of-this-world creative and cutting-edge, I knew it would be exciting. I was right,” she said, describing the project as “just wild and unique and Pedro Almodovarish.”

The Mercury Project: Dancers Painted Silver Form Ballet Imagery for the West Australian Ballet's 2014 Program.

To celebrate its Season 2014 launch and Artistic Director Aurelien Scannella's first year of programming, West Australian Ballet collaborated with Artist and Photographer Emma Hack to create a series of striking images for its 2014 program.

WAB commissioned the well-known body illustrator and artist who painted the dancers' g-string clad bodies in silver and then positioned them so that they created human sculptures to represent next years' performances.

Snow White:

A close-up of the apple:

Inspired by the beauty, the fluidity and the smoothness of the element mercury – a metaphor for dance – Emma created a series of images to celebrate Aurélien Scannella’s first curated season. She has also worked with WAB dancer and upcoming choreographer Daniel Roberts on a performance piece which will be unveiled at the company’s launch event on 17 October. Together, Scannella and Hack developed the project to showcase what ballet is capable of.

In painting them silver, all dancers merge together as one to create beautiful things. It embraces the traditional elements of ballet by creating silhouettes that are classic looking, paired with something as progressive as body painting and building structures of twisted bodies. It has never been done before.

Miley Mocks Herself (And The Government). See The Whole Funny SNL Music Video.

In case you missed it - whether on purpose or by accident, Miley Cyrus' hosting gig on SNL certainly had its moments, the best of which was when Miley and the cast parodied her own song, "We Can't Stop" by giving it a political twist.

Cyrus dressed as Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann with Taran Killam as House Speaker John Boehner suggestively danced and vamped to the new lyrics, which presented a raunchy Republican celebration of the government shutdown.

The full video:

"Cause we came to shut it all down now, no government around now, if you're not ready for healthcare, can I get a 'hell no,'" Cyrus sang while dressed as Bachmann, spanking Uncle Sam, licking Killam as Boehner, and holding and licking an Abraham Lincoln doll. "Government workers on a furlough, even though you're already paid low ... everyone in line for early child care, anyone who planned to see a grizzly bear, we are so shut down yeah."

Some of the best moments:

Kate Moss Struts Her Stuff In Thigh High Boots For Stuart Weitzman. A Look At The Film, The Boots And Behind-The-Scenes.

Shot by Mario Testino, this 2 minute and 18 second black and white short film (or long commercial, if you prefer), Made For Walking, is part of the 2013 Fall ad campaign for Stuart Weitzman in which supermodel Kate Moss struts her sexy stuff through the streets of London turning the heads of everyone from kissing couples to a transgender waitress.

above: a still from the short film/long commercial

Throughout the film, set to Nancy Sinatra's fabulous "These Boots Were Made For Walking", she's wearing some of the brand's coolest new boots - including the brand's iconic 5050 over-the-knee boots which are part of the label's upcoming 20th anniversary celebration collection.

Mario Testino, Moss and Weitzman have worked together before. “Shooting the campaign with Mario is always fun and, with such a great team, it really doesn't feel like work.” says Kate.

Here's a look behind the scenes:

And some stills for you:

A Poet, An Astronaut, a Photographer and A Model in Cole Haan's New Ad Campaign + Videos (And A Look Behind The Scenes).

In 1928 Trafton Cole and Eddie Haan created the Cole Haan brand and to celebrate their 85 year history, they've launched a campaign, "Born in 1928", photographed by Daniel Jackson.

The print and digital campaign features individual portraits reminiscent of the Blackglama and old GAP campaigns, both of whom used famous personalities posed in their clothes and shot in black and white.

The Cole Haan campaign features writer and poet winner Maya Angelou, photographer Elliott Erwitt, astronaut of Apollo 13 Mission Jim Lovell and model China Machado - all of whom are 85 years old (except Machado who is 84).

Shown below, clockwise from upper left, are China Machado's modeling photo, Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, one of Elliott Erwitt's fabulous photos and Jim Lovell on the cover of LIFE:

"They are all vibrant examples of how timelessness and true style are born out of confidence - and that never expires," said Cole Haan vice president of marketing Erin Riley. "They are as relevant today as they were in the past, and they all represent various perspectives that we thought would resonate with our consumer."

All of the personalities wore Cole Haan shoes including the official campaign shoe, the Silver Limited Edition Lunar Grands, worn by Jim Lovell (below):

"There's real clarity and real conviction for what we want the brand to stand for and what we are committed to bringing to light in all of our channels from advertising to marketing," Riley said, explaining that this includes looking the brand's heritage to inform its future.

The campaign was shot in New York at Pier 59 by Daniel Jackson and styled by Tiina Laakkonen.

The Videos
Here are the videos that runs on Cole Haan's site to accompany the campaign:

James Lovell:

"We need to look back to look forward," Riley concluded. "At the same time, we are a very modern brand and we don't want to be perceived as a traditional heritage brand. We're more about attitude than an age group."

The black-and-white photo portion of the campaign debuted on Sept. 3 and has launched on colehaan.com, their social media networks, and in its store windows. Next month the ads will appear in November issues of GQ, Elle, Vogue and Vanity Fair, among others. Billboards featuring the campaign will pop up in major cities like Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Toronto.
