Must-See TRUE DETECTIVE Facts, Photos, Quotes, Art, Parodies and Links.

Tonight airs the 8th episode and season finale of HBO's True Detective. An addictive new series that premiered January 12, 2014 starring Matthew McConaughey (as Rustin Cohle) and Woody Harrelson (as Marty Hart) that has caught on like wildfire and spurred numerous online discussions, fan sites, theories and of course, satire.

Great acting coupled with intense writing that contains enigmatic acronyms, intellectual theories, philosophical monologues and cryptic references make the show simultaneously compelling and yes, totally friggen' confusing.  So I've gathered facts, glossaries, photos, artwork, sites and videos, both hopeful and humorous, for you True Detective fans to enjoy as the season comes to an end.

First off, if you know nothing about the show, here is it as described by HBO:

Opening Titles and Music
The True Detective opening title sequence (shown below) is accompanied by The Handsome Family's "Far From Any Road".

LYRICS:
From the dusty May sun
Her looming shadow grows
Hidden in the branches of the poison creosote
She twines her spines up slowly
Towards the boiling sun
And when i touched her skin
My fingers ran with blood

In the hushing dusk under a swollen silver moon
I came walking with the wind to watch the cactus bloom
And strange hands halted me, the looming shadows danced
I fell down to the thorny brush and felt the trembling hands

When the last light warms the rocks
And the rattlesnakes unfold
Mountain cats will come to drag away your bones

And rise with me forever
Across the silent sand
And the stars will be your eyes
And the wind will be my hands

Nice New Honda Civic Tourer Spot from Wieden+Kennedy London Highlights The Inner Beauty.

From the Honda Newsroom:
Honda finds the ‘Inner Beauty’ with TV campaign for all-new Civic Tourer

The creative team behind Honda’s recent smash-hit viral film ‘Hands’ is aiming for further success with a new TV advertising campaign to welcome the Civic Tourer into Honda dealerships across the UK.

The campaign celebrates the idea that beauty is about much more than what appears on the surface. The creative plays to the trend in design, engineering and wider society of looks being valued over substance. The viewer is taken on a journey through various objects, including a golf ball, suitcase, chest of drawers and a guitar amp, to reveal the inner beauty of each.

It then goes on to position the new Civic Tourer as another perfect example of ‘Inner Beauty’; dynamic and sporty-looking, yet under the surface there lies practicality and function. That hidden substance includes a huge, class-leading 624 litres of boot space, secret storage compartments, concealed door handles, innovative safety features and Honda’s unique ‘Magic Seats’.

‘Inner Beauty’ comes hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed ‘Hands’ film, which to date has received almost 10 million views and won two awards. Creative agency Wieden+Kennedy London has once again teamed up with directors Smith and Foulkes of Nexus Productions to create the new campaign.

Inner Beauty debuts as a 60-second spot on 3 February; followed by further 60- and 30-second spots on television and video-on-demand.

Olivia Dunn, Head of Marketing for Honda (UK) comments: “Take a first glance at the Civic Tourer and you see a great-looking car. This campaign takes the viewer beyond that first appearance to emphasise the balance between style and performance, and the incredible practicality that the car delivers. Once again the team behind ‘Hands’ has brought the message to life in a fresh, innovative and compelling way in line with Honda’s high standards and unique style.”

As with many Honda commercials of recent years, the creative idea for the new campaign was in part inspired by time spent interviewing Honda engineers. Adrian Killham, Chief Engineer for the new Civic Tourer spoke at length to the team behind ‘Inner Beauty’ about the considerable amount of time spent on the design of both the exterior and interior, and his hope that people would want to look deeper than what’s on the surface to discover what lies beneath.

above: Honda 'Hands', which won several awards, celebrates the curiosity of Honda engineers, which has led to some of the most successful Honda innovations over the past 65 years.

Scott Dungate, Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy London, adds, “Beauty is more than just the outside. Beauty also lies inside, in how something fits together and works. We wanted to create a film that yes, showed the external beauty of the car, but also celebrated the wonder of the inside and how it works.”

To celebrate this new campaign, Honda (UK) will be running a five-day Twitter competition, launching on 3 February to coincide with the new TV adverts’ premiere. A short hypnotic loop from the ad will be Tweeted daily, each clip featuring a cleverly concealed word that relates to a great prize. Fans will need to find the hidden word and tweet it to @Honda_UK, using the hashtag #CivicTourer for the chance of win. Prizes include a camera, £743 to spend in one of the world’s most famous department stores (reflecting the car’s 74.3mpg performance) and a holiday for two. Follow @Honda_UK on Twitter for further information.

Designed and developed in Europe, the British-built Civic Tourer delivers distinctive styling, class-leading utility, advanced technology and an impressive balance between fuel economy and performance. With the lightest in class and super-frugal 1.6 i-DTEC engine, the first from Honda’s next generation Earth Dreams Technology range, the 1.6 diesel version offers low running costs with a highly competitive 74.3mpg and CO2 emissions from just 99g/km. The new Civic Tourer is the world’s first production car to feature a Rear Adaptive Damper System and features an all-new suite of innovative passive and active safety systems.

The new Civic Tourer is available to order now, arriving in dealerships in February 2014, with OTR prices starting from £20,265 for the 1.8 i-VTEC S model. For further information please visit www.honda.co.uk/civictourer

All 5 Of The Brian Williams Rap Mash-Ups Including The Epic Rapper's Delight.

I posted this on Faceboook a few minutes after it aired Wednesday night because I was so impressed with it. Apparently, I'm not alone -  it was the number one trending item on Facebook all day Thursday. So, for those of you who have not been watching Jimmy Fallon's first week as host of The Tonight show, I will share it with you.

You may not know that this was not the first mash-up with NBC Nightly News managing editor and anchor Brian Williams edited to appear as though he were rapping. Although the previous versions were not as seamlessly done nor were they nearly as funny. The Brian Williams Gangster Rapper feature became somewhat of a running gag on Jimmy's Late Show with versions to Warrne G, Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch, N.W.A. and Snoop Dogg.

Aired feb 14, 2013
NBC Nightly News managing editor and anchor Brian Williams raps The Sugar Hill Gang's classic "Rapper's Delight" -- and, yes, he brought two friends along:

Prior to this epic one, there were these four - albeit not quite as well done.

The first one aired on June 5th, 2013:
Brian Williams Rapping Snoop Dogg's verse from the classic Dr. Dre song "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang.":

Followed by this one on June 6th, 3013:
Brian Williams Raps Warren G's "Regulate"

The third one aired on June 7th, 2013:
Brian Williams Raps N.W.A's "Straight Outta Compton":

and then on Jul 29, 2013 was this one:
Brian Williams Raps Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's hit "Good Vibrations.":

Perhaps now that Jimmy Fallon is hosting The Tonight Show, more eyeballs are seeing them. But he has many more tricks up sleeve and I'm looking forward to them.

A Look At The Barbie Shoot For The 2014 SI Swimsuit Edition.

News has broken that this year's cover model for the annually anticipated Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is none other than the disproportionately endowed blonde we know and love as Barbie.

For the 50th Anniversary issue Mattel teamed up with SI for the cover shoot and 4 page interior article which features a 1959 vintage Barbie doll in her classic black and white chevron suit, a new limited edition Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Barbie Doll in a contemporary version of the black and white bathing suit and a spread of 17 dolls from Mattel's Barbie Basics collection.

The partnership between the two brands includes the four-page advertising feature in the magazine, video clips; a cover wrap that will appear on 1,000 copies of the issue, declaring Barbie to be “The Doll That Started It All”; a limited-edition Sports Illustrated Barbie, to be sold exclusively on Target.com; and a beach-themed party on Monday night in Lower Manhattan.

Feelings are mixed about the doll gracing the cover, but that's no surprise given that both Barbie and SI have long been criticized about their unrealistic portrayals of women.

The dolls were shot by photographer Walter Iooss, who has shot many of the scantily clad SI Swimsuit models of the past.
