Over a year in the making, Stack And Scare™ is a new series of 4 stackable wooden monster block sets designed by Invisible Creature and produced by the coolest toy blocks store ever, Uncle Goose.



Each of the four sets contains 14-18 pieces in various shapes and sizes. Featuring eyeballs, teeth, horns, arms, rounded shapes for shoulders and eyes, monster heads, hands, feet, legs, torsos, patterns and more. Mix and match shapes or combine with other Stack And Scare™ sets to unleash endless (and taller) creature combinations!

Beautifully and meticulously crafted by the folks at Uncle Goose in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the blocks are made from FSC certified basswood, using non-toxic inks.

Emoticons, Creepily Brought To Life, Warn Against The Dangers Of Online Sexual Predators.




Paris ad agency Rosapark has turned the emoticon (or emoji) into creepily stylized humans in a new print ad campaign for the international non-profit devoted to fighting the sexual abuse of children, Innocence en Danger.



"The goal of this new campaign is to educate parents and children on the dangers of the Internet, the hazards of children and adolescents talking to people they do not know who may be hiding under false identities on social networks, forums, discussion and other chats" Said Gilles Lazimi, campaign coordinator.



"A significant number of adults pose as children and are not "friends" but are aggressors, pedophiles and criminals who have one goal: to approach and attack children sexually" says Ms. Homeyra Sellier, President of the Innocence in Danger association. "It is a reality that should not be overlooked, keeping our children safe from danger is important."



Christine Djamila Allaf, the Secretary General of the Innocence Danger Association, recalls the figures: 1 in 5 children in the world today have been sexually solicited on the Internet. 20 % of them do not recognize things online of which their parents do not approve (Symantec study, Harris Interactive, Feb. 2008).

Over 40% of children ages 1-17 years indicate that they have already faced at least one shocking or traumatic image or information while web browsing (SRI 2007).



"The three visuals created ​​by the Rosapark Agency are very compelling. Creating a human figure of the emoticons used on the forums demonstrates the true nature of those who can sometimes hide behind these symbols, including those with prior offenses, dangerous predators and real pedophiles" said Dr. Emmanuelle Piet, campaign coordinator.

The wonderfully creepy photo manipulation in the ads was created by Mécanique Générale.

The 'Emoticon' print campaign against online child sexual predators has been produced in both French and English in both spreads and single page ads. All three ads asks the same question: "Who's really chatting online with your child?" or 'Savez-vous vraiment qui parle avec votre enfant sur internet?'

Inspiring Little Girls Beyond Disney Princesses - The NOT Just A Girl Series by Jaime Moore.



Wedding and lifestyle photographer Jaime Moore had been searching everywhere for some new creative inspiration for her daughter Emma's 5th birthday photos. When researching she noticed the prevalence of girls dressing as pretty Disney Princesses and no matter where she looked, 95% of the 'ideas' and 'how-to's' featured more of the same. Despite loving Disney Princesses herself (who doesn't?), after giving it much thought Jaime really wanted to use REAL women as inspiration for her daughter.

Mensch On a Bench Gives Elf On A Shelf Some Company.




Originally I was going to title this post "Mensch On A Bench Gives The Elf On A Shelf Some Competition." but given the relatively small amount of Jews and the growing number of mixed marriages, 'company' was a more appropriate term for the new holiday combination book and toy.



NPR reports that during a visit to a store last holiday season, Jewish father Neal Hoffman felt bad telling his son Jake that he couldn't have an The Elf on the Shelf . The widely popular Christmas toy is intended to watch children's behavior for Santa. Hoffman kept thinking, maybe there could be something similar, but rooted in Jewish tradition.

Hoffman, a former Hasbro employee, decided Mensch on a Bench was the answer. "A mensch means a really good person. It's a person that you strive to be," he says.

He raised more than $20,000, using the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, last spring. Since then, the interest has been tremendous. After the product arrived "we sold out in two weeks," Hoffman tells Michel Martin, host of NPR's Tell Me More.


above: In a few short years, the "Elf on the Shelf" picture book and accompanying elf doll transformed from a local Atlanta phenomenon to a national sensation sold in 12,000+ stores. About 2.5 million had been sold by December 2011.

Hoffman decided early on that Mensch on a Bench wouldn't be just a toy. An accompanying book is inspired by the story of Hanukkah.



In it, a fictional character called Moshe tells Judah and the Maccabees he will watch over the oil while they sleep in the Temple. "They say, oh Moshe, thank you so much. You're such a mensch sitting on that bench, watching over the oil!"

He also created eight rules for having a mensch. "They range from singing and playing dreidel and doing latkes with your family, to having the mensch watch over your menorah. ... Also, one night of Hanukkah, you're not going to get presents. You're going to go out ... buy presents for somebody in need, and you're going to give them to somebody else."



Mensch on the Bench tells the story of Moshe the Mensch, who was in the temple with the Maccabees when they won the war against the Greeks. There was only enough oil for one night and everyone was exhausted from the war and wanted to go to sleep. But what if the oil went out while the Jews were sleeping?

From the back of the temple, Moshe offered to stay up all night and watch the oil. He would sit on the bench all night. Judah called him a Mensch...and a child joked "The Mensch on the Bench" and so the name stuck.

The Mensch on the Bench book and doll tells the 8 rules of having a Mensch, which are meant to drive more jewish family traditions and re-enforce the values we want to hand down to our children.

Beautifully Designed CHOMP Food Chain Puzzle Books by Mirim Seo and Kelly Holohan.









Chomp puzzle books are designed to teach kids about basic food chains. Crafted of wood and paper, each beautiful puzzle book introduces a different level of a food chain in its environment; Forest, Ocean, Arctic, Jungle, and Desert. All food chains include, producers, consumers, and decomposers and each plays a role in the chain. When completed, the puzzle shows the eating process.

Beautifully designed and packaged, the set of books was a design project by student Mirim Seo for Temple University's Tyler School of Art  under the tutelage and with art direction by Professor Kelly Holohan.

At this time Chomp is not available for purchase, which is really disappointing, but hopefully the puzzle books will be paired with the right backer to bring this project to life. May I suggest Kickstarter?
