Steampunk Snow Globes By Camryn Forrest. One Of A Kind Shakeable Art.

above: Steampunk Airship snow globe by Camryn Forrest designs

Two of my favorite things have been combined by artist Camryn Forrest. The Steampunk genre and the Snow Globe (or water globe or snowdome). Her intricate little shakeable sculptures combine elements associated with the Victorian age of machinery along with copper, silver or rich pewter glitter as the "snow". The bases upon which the glass encased sculptures sit vary in materials, from marble to woods, and are decorated with "Steampunk" styled embellishments.

Romance That Floats On Your Fingers. Miniature Worlds in Resin Rings by Shannnam.

above: a preview of the The Cupid & Pysche Valentine's Day Rings in the making

Not everyone can afford to spend two month's salary on a diamond ring for their significant other on Valentine's Day (sorry DeBeers). So here's a much less expensive alternative that may be a novelty but it will still make your loved one's heart go a-flutter.

Hong Kong-based handmade accessories designers Shannnam (chan io yau riyo and kwong ho sun howard) have encapsulated miniature worlds in resin to wear upon your finger. For this coming Valentine's Day, they've released a new limited edition collection, Cupid & Psyche, which consists of eight limited edition rings in which sweet couples, young and old, bask in the comfort of one another's company.

Twenty Limited Edition Snow Globes by Ligorano/Reese Celebrate the History of Art.

Designer and limited edition snow globes certainly have their appeal to the art world in addition to collectors of the shakeable snow-laden water-filled round glass objects.

Royal Asscher's Stars Of Africa, 18k And Diamond Snowglobe Rings

I promise this is the last snow dome-related post until next holiday season, but I simply couldn't ignore these. These unbelievable lust-worthy 18k gold and real floating diamond rings work like little snowdomes! By Royal Asscher, the collection is for their fundraising initiative Stars Of Africa.

The Stars of Africa by Royal Asscher™
jewelry collection was launched in November. The project’s name represents the largest diamond ever found, at 3,105 carats, which the Asscher family cut in 1908.

This collection of 18 rings is distinguished by floating diamonds, which are encased in a fluid-filled sapphire dome that allows them to fall freely.

The result of floating diamonds is that the stones emit light, fire and beauty as they move, similar to twinkling stars, according to the designers. The ring collection is available in white, yellow and rose gold in two sizes, with retail prices ranging from $4,950 to $7,900.

Lita Asscher, shown above, first introduced the Star of Africa program in New York during November of 2008. A year later, she explained that in partnering with charities and businesses, she could show the industry how it can have a positive impact on Africa, particularly Sierra Leone, which she visited in 2008. Asscher came away with a strong belief in "diamonds for development" and that became the main goal of the Star of Africa initiative. A portion of each ring purchase goes back to Africa.

Seven Deadly Sin Snowdomes By Ligorano And Reese

Only a select few know that I've got a ridiculously enormous collection of snowdomes ( also called snowglobes, shakies or waterglobes). Most of the over 300 that I own are packed away in boxes with the exception of a few of the more artsy and unusual ones. By that I mean limited editions, signed and numbered and sold either in museums, galleries or directly from the artist.

Like fairy tales or dreams Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz construct trancelike, metaphorical panoramic photographs and snow globes. The collaborative team, which have been working together since 1993, draw from art historical references ranging from Goya and Persian miniatures to literary references from William Blake to Zadie Smith.
