Front Design Group Uses Their Own Doodles For A New Sofa Design for Moroso.

The new Doodle Sofa from Moroso was born out of a habit that many of us have- designers in particular. Created by the Swedish design group Front, all three members (Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken and Anna Lindgren) used doodles they had made during design meetings to create the sofa's pattern.

The name Doodle embodies the spirit of the new sofa for the modern italian furniture brand. Lines drawn distractedly on a sheet of paper, like doodles, become the decoration of the covers which are then embroidered and laid over the frame like a folded blanket.

The shape of the sofa is that of a folded semicircle whose ends become armrests naturally incorporated in the frame.

Front Design says:
"We doodle absent mindedly - doodling is a kind of half-conscious creative work. It is both a distraction, and also thought to help you concentrate on whatever you are doing at the same time.

The decoration is a kind of by-product of Front's creative process, inscribed onto the folded half circle of the sofa's form.

The Float Sofa by Karim Rashid for Sancal.

The FLOAT sofa designed by Karim Rashid for Spain's Sancal was introduced at this year's Salone del Mobile and combines an upholstered screen-like back with seating. The modern couch can serve as a space divider, a coat rack or simply lounge seating.

Each Float component (arms, seat, back and headrest) can be upholstered in different fabrics or a single color option. Float is available in 3 sizes: two sofas with a low back and one sofa with a high back. The latter offers different combinations: apart from the straight arms, you can choose an inclined arm to lie back on like a divan.

Two hangers can be attached to the high back and utilized as coat hooks. Karim also designed the Cairo cushions and headrests, named for Egypt as the inspiration which is also Karim's birthplace.

TRON Armchair Now Mass-Produced For Cappellini In 4 Colors & New Material.

In 2010 Cappellini And Walt Disney Signature Presented A Special Production Series of The TRON Armchair Designed By Dror Benshetrit For Design Miami 2010.

above: The prototype for Disney. Raw Data forms a jagged and angular landscape, serving as a muse for a chair that is comprised of intersecting layers and textures of 'digital' rock. Constructed of composite material consisting of impregnated fiberglass with polyester resin processed with manual layering, these Special Production Walt Disney Signature TRON Armchairs invite you to "sit off the grid."

You may have read about these on such design sites as Core 77, Curated Mag and Design Milk. Their reports showed the Special Production Walt Disney Signature TRON Armchairs made of fiberglass and in gritty and unusual paint jobs such as these:

Initially made as a series of four “one-off” fibreglass prototypes, when it came to mass production Cappellini and Poltrona Frau went with four new colors and 100% recyclable material.

Giulio Cappellini plays on the contrasts suggested by the film; the contrast between the real world and the world of TRON:Legacy. Natural elements embody this juxtaposition, so the dark grey of the “stone”, and the white of the “air” represent the landscape of Tron and the safe house, while the light blue of “water” and the green of the “grass” represent the real world:

Cappellini & Walt Disney Signature

Conceived from the futuristic world of the Disney film “TRON: Legacy” and designed by Dror Benshetrit of Studio Dror, the Tron Armchair is a product profoundly inspired by material with features that are reminiscent of the rugged and rocky landscape which surrounds the digital world of TRON. Initially made as a series of four “one-off” fibreglass prototypes individually hand-finished by New York designer Dror Benshetrit (shown below in the chair).

Using the roto-molding technique, made of 100% recyclable material and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, the armchair is now available in four different colors.

Designer Benshetrit talks about the mass-produced TRON Chair at the Milan Design Village, 2011:

Wild Limited Edition Designer Furniture From Outdoorz Gallery

Outdoorz Gallery is run by Deborah Sommers & Beth Boutry in Paris. With a love and respect for artisans and their work, the two women began an online site that showcases - and sells - the furniture of award-winning designers from all over the world. They expose people to pieces that are unique, often limited in number and not ordinarily found on furniture websites. You may recognize some of the following designs from having been featured on popular blogs, but most of the pieces were never available to purchase. Until now.

Here are a few of their incredible pieces available for purchase:

Bench No. 3 by Floris Wubben, Netherlands

The graceful lines of Bench No. 3 bring to mind a wave cascading over driftwood or as Rob Cassey from England's prestigious Garden Design Journal puts it " This is an incredibly beautiful and potentially iconic object that reminds me both of Issey Miyake's work and Rie Kawakubo's, with the odd bit of Zaha Hadid thrown in without being the least bit derivative. "

The undulating pattern is achieved by accordion folding a sheet of white polypropylene and attaching it to the wood with white lacquered metal bars. As a result the top of the bench is given its shape directly from its support, the wooden branch. It is just this combination of natural and hi tech materials that make this piece so striking. Each bench is produced by hand in Floris Wubben's studio, and is as unique as the branch which serves as the base. A comfortable bench to sit on the top portion easily supports one's weight. A perfect place to enjoy a view, though perhaps the most striking view is of this unique bench itself.
Materials: wood, metal, polypropylene
Dimensions: L200cm x W50cm x H43cm
Delay: 8 weeks
Price: 3,469 €

Chaise Lawn by Derger Cengiz

An alive chaise lounge, a mobile garden, human transporter, outdoor art by Deger Cengiz. A chance to lie down on the grass, watch the clouds overhead and forget the surrounding urban chaos. Recently on show at the "Best Seats on Broadway" exhibition at Times Square, N.Y., Chaise Lawn blurs the line between sculpture and furniture. Grass seeds included, but the Chaise Lawn also looks great planted with wild flowers or aromatic herbs. Chaise Lawn is currently on exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City.
Price: $1500.00

Cactus Chair, Limited edition/13 pieces

A provocative new design from Deger Cengiz, Cactus Chair examines how visual data affects the users experience. The existence of the large cactus elicits an emotional response, it is temporarily discomforting, a challenge. Though the user knows that the cactus is behind the glass and is not an actual threat he experiences a slight hesitation. Both tempted to sit and tempted to avoid the experience, Cactus Chair is an exciting new piece from Deger Cengiz that challenges our perceptions of furniture and design.
Materials: green tinted high quality plexi-glass, Barrel Cactus (included), river stones
Price: $3,000

Bench & Stone (Carbon Fiber)

Bench by Peter Donders, Belgium
(limited edition of 10 pieces)

Currently the ultimate material available in terms of weight to strength ratio, carbon fiber is used to produce Formula One race cars, the highest quality sporting equipment, as well as the chassis of space crafts. This exceptional limited edition series will be limited to 10 pieces and is suitable for both public and private spaces.
Material: carbon fiber
Dimensions: 300cm x 40cm x 55cm
Weight: 6 kilos
