Andy Yang Soo Kit Body Paints For Singapore's Breast Cancer Foundation.

Making the rounds on the design and advertising blogs is this new 2010 ad campaign for the Breast Cancer Foundation's Awareness and Education Programme in Singapore. Created by DDB Worldwide, Singapore, they feature women's bodies illustrated by Andy Yang Sookit.

The three print ads and accompanying collateral pieces, with photos by Allen Ng, feature breasts and stomachs painted with Kryolan Grease Paint and ask if you are "obsessed with the right thing" and urge regular breast checks.

Lions And Tigers And Buttocks, Oh My! Body Painting By Craig Tracy

Along with the likes of Joanne Gair, Emma Hack, Verushka, Guido Daniele and M.A.C. make-up body artists I have featured, Craig Tracy is another individual who creates art with body paints on the human form.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Craig Tracy, shown working above, first started body painting in 2002 and opened his Louisiana gallery, Painted Alive Bodypainting, in early 2006.

Using a traditional paintbrush, an airbrush, sponges and finger-painting, Tracy's body paintings each take approximately one full day to complete. He uses a different model's body (and in some cases, multiple models) for each image.

His work has been used in several ads and other commercial applications. Being from New Orleans, it's not surprising that he has many jazz related images, but my favorites, without a doubt, are his nature and animal works.

His stunning illusory image of a tiger was created with three models to increase awareness and benefit a cause that is near to the heart of the artist:

Tigers have always been his favorite animal and when asked to aid in the effort to protect, repopulate and re-wild this the most endangered tiger in the world, Craig immediately said yes. "Only 100 South China Tigers are reported to remain alive and if my body painting can help increase that number by one then I'll have lived with purpose." states the artist.

The Tramp Stamp Goes Upscale With CHANEL Temporary Tattoos

With the body art craze continuing to grow, it's no surprise that a luxury brand would capitalize on the trend. And it seems that french brand CHANEL is the first to market luxury temporary rub-on tattoos, LES TROMPE-L'OEIL DE CHANEL.

In the Chanel Spring-Summer 2010 Fashion Show in Paris, the models were not only sporting fashionable fabrics, but a series of temporary tattoos designed and applied by Peter Philips, the Global Creative Director for CHANEL makeup.

They are now selling the fifty-five exclusive temporary tattoos, originally hand-drawn by Peter Philips. Artful images of CHANEL symbols and icons, including Oriental cherry blossoms, bejeweled Swallows, Chanel's double CC logo, strands of pearls, link chains and toggle clasps have been turned into rub-on body art. They add visual trompe l'oeil jewelry to the body in the form of classic ornamentation.

Created as a special limited edition, the set of 55 of the applicable body art is now available for purchase from Chanel boutiques ($75), online stores and at Selfridges. They only take 30 seconds to apply and last a few days.

The Super Sexy Body Painting of Joanne Gair

It dawned on me that I really couldn't mention the talented work of Joanne Gair in the context of a post about body painting without showing you some of her amazing work, so now I've decided to do just that.

We've seen body painting before. I've posted about well-known hand painter, Guido Daniele and the body painting of shoes on feet by Temptu. And how could I forget Veruschka?* But it wasn't until I saw her work on the cover of India's Platform magazine, that I was introduced to Australian artist and body illustrator Emma Hack.

An artist with several skills; sculpture, multimedia, photographer and more, I'm sharing images of her body painting for this post because it's simply amazing. Her work uses the naked bodies of both men and women as canvases and incorporates the backgrounds to give us the illusion of a flat surface in which the bodies are so well camouflaged against wall coverings, it's hard to even see them.

About this stunning collection: Emma’s Wallpaper 2005, 2007 and 2008 collections feature Florence Broadhurst wallpaper designs mixed with her body illustration. Emma continues to work blending her ‘wallflowers’ with the beautiful designs of Broadhurst.

Emma’s recent 2008 collection, featured during the Adelaide Fringe Festival, features exotic Australian animals, nude landscapes and a continued collection of Florence Broadhurst wallpapers. Emma photographed this collection herself, evolving her talents further. Here are her most recent works from her Wallpaper series:

A bit about the artist:
Emma began her career as a make up and hair stylist and painted children's faces. She has evolved into a world-class body illustrator with several awards and acclaim, as well as a sculptor, a photographer and more. She's involved in several projects and continues to stretch and hone her talents.

*addendum:
I had to amend this post to answer to the several emails I've received reminding me of the amazing body painting and transfigurations by Vera Lehndorff (aka Veruschka). I was remiss in not referencing her work in a post about body painting- because it is superb and especially since my colleagues worked with her to produce a Lexus TV and print campaign in the mid 90s.

After beginning her career as a model in the 60’s, Lehndorff used the Veruschka pseudonym to enter the public domain, becoming one of the most sought-after and heavily publicized models in international fashion. Prior to crossing over to the art world with a renowned series of camouflage body-paintings, Lehndorff worked with many prominent photographers, including Helmet Newton.
