A Giant Floating Skate Ramp In Lake Tahoe For Bob Burnquist.

floating skate ramp hero IIHIH

Pro-skater Bob Burnquist has skated on almost every surface imaginable. Now he can add the surface of the water to that list. As part of California's Dream 365 Project, a collection of inspiring videos, photos, memes, tweets and more designed to increase tourism to California, Burnquist proves he can Dream Big and builds a large floating skate ramp in the waters of gorgeous Lake Tahoe.

Behind the Scenes
Once upon a time we came upon a photo of a floating skate ramp. We thought it was a totally cool idea, but when we did a little research, we discovered the image was a fake—someone’s Photoshopped fantasy. Bummer, we thought—but then we got inspired. “Let’s build our own,” we cried, “and let’s have pro skater Bob Burnquist skate on it—in Lake Tahoe!” Somehow our crazy idea seemed just fine to Bob, who had his own designers join us for four days to build this ramp “floating” above Lake Tahoe. Brazilian-born Bob loved the ramp so much he wants one just like it built at his waterfront home in his home country (only because his San Diego spread—where he has his own super-pipe—doesn’t have any waterfront). Cool fact: For our shoot, a wet-suited snorkeler was at the ready to dive for Bob’s skateboard every time it went over the edge and into the big blue.

Toy Boarders - A Peaceful Twist On Toy Soldiers For A New Generation.

Move over green Army Men, now we've got green thrashers to play with. AJ's original Toy Boarders are skate, surf and snowboard inspired plastic action figures that - like little classic toy soldiers, are plastic, green and ignite the imagination - but unlike toy soldiers, do not promote violence.

Allowing your child to turn your the outdoors, your home or any object within it, into a skate park, the 8 differently posed boarders are true to form and nicely detailed - although there's not a single female in the bunch. ToyBoarders poses include Pushing, Nose Grab, Smith, Cruising 1, Cruising 2, Nose Manual, Tail Grab, and Ollie and come 24 pieces to a package for only about $5.

Segways Are For Sissies. Check Out The DTV Shredder.

My Segway can beat up your Segway. Especially the Military edition which includes grenade launchers.

BPG Werks, the company started by the talented Ben Gulak, about whose zero-emissions Uno I blogged long ago, has designed a radical all terrain vehicle which combines skateboard decks, a powerful engine and tank-like treads... the DTV Shredder.

The Segway-pummeling vehicle is a combination of a skateboard deck with traditional skateboard trucks, a powerful engine and two tank-threads capable of tearing up any terrain at high speeds; snow, sand, trails, and mountains. Acceleration and braking are controlled by a small handheld remote control and a 4-stroke racing engine powers two tank-style tracks up to a wicked 30 mph.

The consumer-friendly Sport version (which is available for $2500) has a brawnier brother in the works. BPG Werks is currently developing a militarized version of the DTV Shredder with the United States Air Force Academy.

Single soldiers operating the DTV Shredder can cover more ground at an unprecedented efficiency. The DTV Shredder, which can handle any terrain at high speeds, was built as a first response, modular platform to better equip the soldier – especially in crisis situations. It’s low center of gravity and rugged design make it ideal for a wide variety of applications including: reconnaissance, rescue and recovery, mobile surveillance, offensive platform, medical evacuation and rapid response.
