Our Fonts, Our Friends. A Film From the Folks At Veer.

Veer has just released this fun animated short film to market their font selection. "Our Fonts, Our Friends" is the first in a series of retro science films from the stock photo, image, illustration and typeface company. In this installment, the narrator discusses font styles, how to choose your font, and where to find an endless supply of affordable fonts.

Veer is one of my favorite type and image houses for their style, selection, attitude and design. Photography, illustration and all sorts of fonts are available to purchase and download. In addition to a wonderful array of type styles, they offer a few stylish gifts for fontophiles, lots of fun free images, wallpapers, fonts, book and more.

Gauche Protocol - Typographic Scarves Made From Army Surplus.

An advertising Art Director and Copywriter have just started their own fashion label, with type and a twist.

German-born copywriter Annette Spörel has collaborated with Catalan graphic designer/art director Saül Serradesanferm (both shown above) to start an interesting unisex fashion accessory label named GAUCHE PROTOCOL. The Barcelona-based brand is dedicated to sourcing new and recycled army surplus and transforming it through the application of text.

They have begun the line with seven 100% wool scarves whose patterns are printed snippets of conversation. Produced in limited editions of 300 each, the scarves can be worn by men or women and in numerous ways.

According to their website, their selection is made based on "a profound love for the written word and an intuitive sense for the popular, the unpopular and the workings of contemporary interpersonal communication". Sounds like advertising creatives to me :)

Biotypography part 2: Typosperma

Created by Oded Ezer, Typosperma
is the second experimental typo project in his 'Biotypography' series.

The first was blogged about all over the place.. Ezer turned 3D type into insect like creatures. (see below..)

Above: An image from Ezer's Biotypography 1 project

As a paraphrase on the biotechnology definition, 'Biotypography' is a term that refers to any typographical application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to create or modify typographical phenomena.

The main idea of the 'Typosperma' project was to create some sort of new transgenic creatures, half (human) sperm, half letter. These imaginary creatures are cloned sperms, that typographic information has been implanted into their DNA.
