Dressing Up Your Drawers. 70's Pop Imagery On Dressers With Classic Silhouettes From Ypsilon.

Ypsilon of Italy is known for their luxurious bathroom furnishings, most of which are chests of drawers and vanities in an ornate style. However, they've just added the Ypsilon POP collection, designed by BB Associati for the brand. The free standing laquered wood chests of drawers feature fun colors and imagery, combining a 70's pop art element with a classic silhouette.

They can even customize them with an image of your own choosing, such as your own dog or face. The two drawer chests are designed for any room in the house and are available in gloss, matte or two color.

Thermochromic Table Lets You Make Your Mark. Temporarily.

The thermographic finish on this table and bench designed by Jay Watson of Oxfordshire reacts to heat by going clear temporarily to expose the wood beneath. It leaves an interesting ghostly print of either body parts or dinnerware for a brief amount of time. Makes for great dinner table conversation.

Handmade from solid european oak with a black thermochromic finish. In response to heat the surface temporarily goes clear to reveal the timber beneath. Suitable for heavy duty indoor use. Made in the UK.

Handcrafted Sycamore and Walnut Tables Shaped Like Nautilus Shells by Marc Fish.

UK Furniture craftsman Marc Fish has created two table designs inspired by the Nautilus Shell. His first, Nautilus I, was designed and crafted in 2010-2011 and awarded Guild Mark no. 435 by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. The Nautilus I has aluminium legs (photos are shown later in this post) while in Nautilus II, the base is formed of wood.

In Marc's own words he describes the brief as one calling for "a large statement piece, with maybe a hint of the sea - its location being a large loft style apartment overlooking the English Channel. An open brief from the client is every makers dream- room to explore, experiment and innovate. A new technique was developed to turn 4000 pieces of veneer strips into a 10 mm thick logarithmic spiral."

Materials used for the Nautilus I are Sycamore, Walnut, Japanese paper, glass and aluminum; for Nautilus II, Sycamore, Walnut and Glass.

Each was produced in an edition of 5, each unique in colour and style.

Periodic Concrete Coffee Table by James DeWulf Is A Formula For Hip Home Decor

James DeWulf of DeWulf Concrete (the very same craftsman who made this awesome concrete combination ping pong table/dining table) has designed and crafted this Periodic Coffee Table of low relief concrete with a powder coated steel frame.

The elements relief cast into the table are set in a square of polished concrete and are shallow enough so as not to tip over a glass or vase filled with liquid.

Measuring 54" long x 30" wide x 16" tall, the contemporary coffee table is available with a 1" or 1.5" concrete debossed and polished top (also available with a plain concrete slab top if you'd refer not to have it with the periodic table of elements) in either natural or smoke colors.

With an appointment-only studio in Santa Monica, the high-end precast furniture and architectural products from James DeWulf is available by contacting him via email or phoning him at 310-315-7100. Select pieces can be found at H.D Buttercup and other reputable furniture dealers.

Putting A Fingerprint On Custom Wood Furniture. A Sterling Silver One.

Bespoke (or custom) furniture craftsman Edward Johnson makes beautiful original pieces of modern furniture from wood, with a very unique signature. A designer and cabinetmaker, he combines contemporary knowledge of ergonomics and design with the traditional craft of woodworking. Dining room tables, chairs, sideboards, nesting tables, and jewelry boxes made with exotic wood like rippled Sycamore and Zebrano, embody both luxury and functionality.

His signature is a sterling silver hallmarked impression of his biometric fingerprint embedded into the pieces, an equally beautiful and personal touch.

His Easy Chair is one of my favorites, combining modern ergonomics and sensibilities with laminated beech wood and walnut:

Every piece of his bespoke furniture is personally handmade at his workshop in Sussex. His attention to detail and refusal to compromise on quality is maintained from start to finish. He invites his clients to visit the workshop to discover the craftsmanship and expertise that Edward brings to his designs and pieces.
