Beautifully Designed CHOMP Food Chain Puzzle Books by Mirim Seo and Kelly Holohan.

Chomp puzzle books are designed to teach kids about basic food chains. Crafted of wood and paper, each beautiful puzzle book introduces a different level of a food chain in its environment; Forest, Ocean, Arctic, Jungle, and Desert. All food chains include, producers, consumers, and decomposers and each plays a role in the chain. When completed, the puzzle shows the eating process.

Beautifully designed and packaged, the set of books was a design project by student Mirim Seo for Temple University's Tyler School of Art  under the tutelage and with art direction by Professor Kelly Holohan.

At this time Chomp is not available for purchase, which is really disappointing, but hopefully the puzzle books will be paired with the right backer to bring this project to life. May I suggest Kickstarter?

Goodnight iPad, A Parody Of The Children's Classic For The Gadget Loving Generation.

The classic children's book, Goodnight Moon, has been more parodied a few times, one of my favorites being Goodnight Keith Moon. The latest to turn the illustrated children's tale "Goodnight Moon," written by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Clement Hurd and first published in 1947, into a version that resonates with our contemporary world, is Goodnight iPad. Written by Ann Droyd (a pseudonym) with charming illustrations by David Milgrim, the book is a version for today's generation, living modern-day lives filled with products we power up.

Modern life is abuzz. There are huge LCD WiFi HD TVs and Facebook requests and thumbs tapping texts and new viral clips of cats doing flips. Wouldn't it be nice to say goodnight to all that? Like the rest of us who cannot resist just a few more scrolls and clicks, you may find yourself ready for bed while still clinging to your electronics long after dark.

This book, which is made of paper, is a reminder for the child in all of us to power down at the end of the day. This hilarious parody not only pokes loving fun at the bygone quiet of the original classic, but also at our modern plugged-in lives. It will make you laugh, and it will also help you put yourself and your machines to sleep. Don't worry, though. Your gadgets will be waiting for you, fully charged, in the morning.

The book has received excellent press by many reputable critics (see some here)

About the author:
Ann Droyd is the pseudonym for an IRA/CBC Children's Choice winner who has written and illustrated over twenty picture books for young readers. Droyd's work is known for its sense of narrative, humor, and visual playfulness. Ann Droyd, who studied graphic design at Parsons, lives in Massachusetts.

Marcel The Shell Sequel, Book, Activity Kit and Mobile Apps Continue The Cuteness.

I was thrilled to learn that director/writer Dean Fleischer-Camp and commedienne, writer (and Marcel's voice) Jenny Slate have produced another short film starring the lovable and quirky Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.

Along with the release of this sequel, Penguin has published a book for children (and enjoyable for adults, too) about the impish stop-motion shell named Marcel called Marcel the Shell With Shoes On: Things About Me

To learn about how Marcel The Shell came to life and see the first video, go here.

Now there's even a Marcel the Shell mobile app for both the iPhone and iPad:

And a downloadable PDF Activity kit with a maze, a word puzzle and coloring pages (art for the kit by Amy Lind):

Goodnight Keith Moon. A Bedtime Story For The Twisted.

Goodnight Keith Moon is a parody of the ubiquitous parent staple, illustrated children's book "Goodnight Moon" , written by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Clement Hurd and first published in 1947.

The adult riff on the classic bedtime story places late and legendary The Who drummer Keith Moon, who was known for his self-destructive behavior, in the title role. The new book, written and illustrated by Michiganers Bruce Worden and Clare Cross, has a similar look as the original at first glance. But upon closer inspection, broken booze bottles, busted drumsticks and even the ghost of Mama Cass make an appearance.

The Book :

Both authors have big plans for the future regarding their writing career — Worden has written a graphic novel on Eric Clapton and the legend of Robert Johnson and has started on a few other children’s book projects. More information on Worden can be found at SketchSketchSketch.com.

Meanwhile, Cross is working on a World War I novel and gathering poetry, fiction and short memoir pieces to place in a literary journal. She is also currently putting together a website, which will show her published works and future plans.
