Kerstin zu Pan's "Extra Virgin" photography series

A few months ago, I introduced you to the talented photographer Kerstin zu Pan and her "Supervision" project.

The Berlin photographer's latest series, "Extra Virgin", was shot on the beaches of South Africa with a bunch of stunning models from Vision Models. The images utilize the landscape as much as they do the interesting masks used as props on the undressed women.

The following images can be enlarged by clicking upon them. I advise you to view them in a new window or tab, so you can easily return to the post.

Concept & Realisation: zu Pan
Hair and Make-up: Melanie Schöne & Henriette Höft
Models: Vision Models - Cape Town

I asked Kerstin a few questions about her latest project and she kindly obliged me with the following answers.

What was your inspiration?
The rainbow theme is something I worked with in the last years in my Fine Art projects. In my new series "Extra Virgin" its reduced, but still the basic inspiration.

What is the signficance of the masks?
Last Year I bought 20 masks in all colours in a giftshop in Singapore, and I knew immediatley that I wanted to shoot them in South Africa in these white dunes. Masks are a nice accessory to work with - they always let the viewer guessing whats behind - but the reality will never be revealed.

Why do the models lack any genitalia?
You know, I think with pictures it´s the same like with jokes... they get destroyed when you explain them.

Sweet New Book! Lolli-POP by Massimo Gammacurta

Over a year ago I introduced my readers to a very talented photographer named Massimo Gammacurta. Within his diverse portfolio of work was a series of lollipops made in the shape of famous brand logos. Now, the photographer's lollies are presented in a new book.

press release:
Massimo Gammacurta and Visionairs Gallery present: Lolli-POP, the lollipops show.

Lolli-pop is the latest conceptual still life project by Italian born photographer Massimo Gammacurta. Each piece is a real Lollipop sculpture is handcrafted by Massimo Gammacurta with real hard ball candy. His lollies are edible icons.

The brands are as sweet as candy for the palate and the eye. The brand association has in fact been replaced by a new meaning through the materiality and the abstract action painting dynamic gestures. When Massimo first distributed his lolli-pops on the Internet as an art experiment, interest amongst bloggers and fashionistas exploded. With this book, his lolli-pops of world renowned brands are released into the world once again for consumption, but now in print.

The Photography Of Eva Mueller

Bavarian-born photographer Eva Mueller is best known for her projection photography - projected light, shape and texture on nudes. But frankly, I find those are the least inventive and beautiful of her work.

With an enormous portfolio that includes everything from CD and album covers to lipstick ads, her large body of work is quite diverse, despite certain stylistic commonalities. She often acts as the art director for her own shoots, utilizing her knowledge of graphic design for both the concepts and compositions. Minimal and graphic, bold and clean, Mueller says her vision is that of "less is more."

Once you pour over the following images, you'll find that whether it's gritty and black and white or slick and bright, indoors or outdoors, stylized or natural, her work has an undeniable beauty.
