Like Moths To A Flame. Butterfly Lamps by Ingo Maurer with Insects by Graham Owen.




At the 2011 Euroluce show, Ingo Maurer, known for his wild lighting designs, unveiled two fabulous hanging lamps. One for mass-production, the other in a limited production. The Johnny B. Butterfly and the J.B. Schmetterling (Schmetterling is German for butterfly) lamps feature realistic butterflies, moths, and dragonflies that created by California artist Graham Owen.

The Johnny B. Butterfly
The Johnny B. Butterfly version is made with a bulb that has a Teflon band on which two handmade butterflies and one dragonfly are perched. The lamp is fitted with a 105 watt bulb is made especially for Ingo Maurer GmbH and belongs to energy efficiency class C, which conforms to EU guidelines.



The Johnny B. Butterfly lamp will be mass-produced and was expected to be available for purchase by Autumn 2011 but is still not on the market. No known price as of yet.

One Fish, Two Fish, Glass Fish, Gold Fish. New Shoal Lights From Scabetti.




I introduced you to Dominic Bromley and his stunning lamps for Scabetti way back in 2007. Since then, his beautiful Shoal light made of fine bone china fish that seem to be suspended as swimming in a school (hence the name) has expanded into a line that includes various sizes, custom versions and even special new editions such as glass and gold.

Fine Bone China Shoal lights:
A mass of fine bone china fish carrying delicate sculpted detail, circle a central beam of light, creating a captivating cylindrical form. Each fish is lit not only by reflected light from its neighbours but also from within, with the light passing through the delicate translucent china body.

Chen Karlsson Designs A Pendant Lamp That Doubles As A Display Case





A fun and functional idea from Scandinavian/Asian design studio Chen Karlsson, a pendant lamp named "Favourite Things" that also serves as a display cases for small items and curios.






Designed in 3 various color combinations, the lamp was introduced at The 2010 Stockholm Furniture Fair and should be available soon (I'll keep you posted).

Antoine Laverdiere's Restaurant Animal Lights Available To the Public




If you've ever been to, or read about the famed Montreal restaurant, Le Club Chasse et Peche, you may have noticed the unusual animal wall sconces and pendant lamps.



Designer Antoine Laverdiere was commissioned by the Montreal restaurant to create some unusual lighting for them. The results are whimsical ceramic and glass Buffalo and Veal wall sconces and Duck pendant lamps.




And now, the soft and ambient whimsical lights are actually available to the public for purchase.

Duck (le canard) is available in white ceramic with a mouth blown, clear glass shade. A white ceiling canopy/cover is included for ceiling (hardwired) installation.

The Veal or Calf (le Veau) is available in smoke and offers left and right models for bedside installation. Installs by electrical plug:
