Putting A Fingerprint On Custom Wood Furniture. A Sterling Silver One.

Bespoke (or custom) furniture craftsman Edward Johnson makes beautiful original pieces of modern furniture from wood, with a very unique signature. A designer and cabinetmaker, he combines contemporary knowledge of ergonomics and design with the traditional craft of woodworking. Dining room tables, chairs, sideboards, nesting tables, and jewelry boxes made with exotic wood like rippled Sycamore and Zebrano, embody both luxury and functionality.

His signature is a sterling silver hallmarked impression of his biometric fingerprint embedded into the pieces, an equally beautiful and personal touch.

His Easy Chair is one of my favorites, combining modern ergonomics and sensibilities with laminated beech wood and walnut:

Every piece of his bespoke furniture is personally handmade at his workshop in Sussex. His attention to detail and refusal to compromise on quality is maintained from start to finish. He invites his clients to visit the workshop to discover the craftsmanship and expertise that Edward brings to his designs and pieces.

Baby Cradle Becomes Two Rockers When It's No Longer Needed.

Designer Martin Price, a 2009 graduate from Central Saint Martin with a First-Class Honours Degree in BA Product Design, came up with the idea to design and craft a baby cradle that when outgrown or no longer useful can actually be sawn in half to become two functional rocking chairs.

The result is surprisingly attractive - both the cradle and the rockers are elegant and attractive pieces, each on their own as opposed to looking piece-meal.

The project grew out of his research and dissertation about looking into people's attachment to their possessions and understanding how they use objects to trigger memories of events and stories in their lives.

The piece was created in his workshop using ash wood with a foam mattress:

Toideloi Stackhouse - Modular Birch Plywood Dollhouses & Buildings.

Designed by Martijn van Tilburg for Toideloi, the Stackhouse is a series of modular building sets that can provide children with hours of play. Castles, Chalet, Villages and Skyscrapers can be easily built and rearranged from the various pieces which are all made from clear lacquered Eastern European Birch plywood. The rooms are large and spacious, measuring 14" x 14" (width and depth) and are 9.5" high. The house works great with 1:12 scale furniture.

Village and Skyscraper:

Kids or parents can change the house by arranging and stacking the rooms, balconies and roofs into many unique structures. The Stackhouse is expandable; kids can bring along their rooms on play dates and build a mansion or build up a collection of rooms and roofs over time.

The stackhouses require no screws and have easy assembly. The walls of the rooms simply slide together. No tools required. Once put together the components are very stable. For longer term storage, the rooms can be disassembled in the same way.
