Beautiful BEYOND Tubs and Showers from Glass Idromassaggio.

BEYOND is a beautifully designed series of bathtubs and showers designed by Claudia Danelon and Federico Meroni for Italy's Glass Idromassagio.

BEYOND is an amalgamation of beauty as you’ve never seen before: the natural organic egg-like shapes of the tub or shower tray are made of Pietraluce® (an anti-limescale and anti-bacterial composite material) and are fused with the architectural rationality of a monolith constructed from resin, wood or mosaic tiles.

The BEYOND Bathtub

Bathtub in Pietraluce®, available in matt or glossy white or black. Fitted with Up&Down waste with Pietraluce® cover and concealed overflow, the bathtub is incorporated in a self-supporting monolith block to which different finishes and materials can be applied to blend in impeccably with the structure, shape and function of the surroundings. The bath is designed for freestanding, corner, wall or niche installation.

The BEYOND Shower

Shower area with tray in Pietraluce®, available in matt white or black and fitted with waste and cover in Pietraluce®. The walk-in shower enclosure is made in 8 mm tempered clear glass. The wall-mounted monolith block can be clad in various finishes and materials to blend in impeccably with the structure, shape and function of the surroundings. The shower is designed for corner installation.

The Vessel: A Slick Suspended Sling-Like Bathtub Made Of Carbon Fiber.

Splinter Works' new limited edition tub, the Vessel, was inspired by the hammock. The slick and sexy tub was designed for use in a wet room and is completely suspended above the ground.

The following text is from their press release:
Struck by the synergy between the shapes of two compelling symbols of relaxation, a hammock and a bath tub, Splinter Works were inspired to develop a piece that would provide the ultimate vehicle for total escapism.

The peaceful experience of kicking-back in a hammock has been further enhanced by combining it with the immersive comfort of soaking in a hot bath. By literally elevating the experience of bathing into a suspended sculpture the bathroom has been reinvented as a contemplative sanctuary for artful relaxation.

Designed for use in a wet room, Vessel is suspended from the walls and does not touch the floor. It is fixed with stainless steel brackets that can be covered over, or left revealed.

The bath is filled using a floor standing tap and the waste water released through the base into a floor drain. A downpipe drain can also be installed if a wet room setting is not possible.

Vessel is made from carbon fibre which is utilised for its inherent strength and ability to be formed into complex curves, furthermore the weave of the fabric references the cloth of a typical hammock. Beneath the layers of carbon fibre lies a foam core, which insulates the tub, meaning the bath stays hot for considerably longer than normal.

At 2.7m long, Vessel is longer than a regular bathtub, leaving plenty of room to share the experience. Custom sizes are available but it is also designed so that it can be trimmed up to 20 cm to allow for flexible installation. Pictured here in black, it also available in red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and pure silver.

About Splinter Works:
Splinter Works’ mission is to create furniture that is engaging and inspiring. Through their designs they strive to enrich the lives of users, enhancing their environment and elevating the experience of everyday life. Their aim is to create work that is individual, thought provoking, aesthetically beguiling, intelligently designed and seamlessly functional. The designs are experimental and theatrical, whilst maintaining the importance of the inherent function of the piece. The work revels in playing visual tricks where balance is often questioned. Opposing dichotomies of solidity versus weightlessness, motion versus stillness, and strength versus fragility are played out in ambitious designs through innovative materials. Splinter Works' limited-edition collection currently ranges from desks, dressing tables, dining tables, consoles, loungers, stools, bath tubs and pool slides. Alongside working on their editioned portfolio, they produce unique commissions where every element, from the intended location and practical requirements, to striking a personal resonance with the commissioner, can be considered and accomplished.

All the pieces are all handmade in Britain. Splinter Works was formed in 2009 and is a collaboration between Miles Hartwell and Matt Withington.

The design studio is based in the UK, thirty minutes south of London.

A Look At The Pitt Pollaro Collection. Contemporary Furniture Designed by Brad Pitt, Built by Frank Pollaro.

Given his passion for architecture and design, it was only a matter of time before actor/hunk/celebhubby and family man Brad Pitt began a product line of his own. Introducing Pitt Pollaro: a collection of hand crafted pieces designed by Brad Pitt and built by Frank Pollaro. The Pitt-Pollaro collection made its world premiere in November 2012 in New York City, after four years in development. Featured in Architectural Digest, news of the upcoming collection spread like wildfire.

Below are the current pieces in the collection. They will be adding new pieces as they become available on their website as well as at private exhibitions.

Each Pitt-Pollaro piece of furniture is made in limited edition and is signed and numbered. The piece bears the mark of the makers and their signatures, along with the edition number guaranteeing that the piece is original. The mark may be branded into the wood, stamped into the metal, or fixed as a bronze plate.

Every piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity which outlines all details associated with the piece including year of original design, year of creation, materials, and edition number. In some cases the editions may be limited to a specific set of materials and colors. Some pieces are unique because of the rarity of the materials.

From their website:
"In 2008, Brad Pitt commissioned a custom desk from Pollaro Custom Furniture. Frank Pollaro personally delivered the desk to Brad’s chateau in the south of France. During the installation, Brad and Frank found that they had a common passion for furniture and fine details. They discussed design history and their appreciation of materials, old and new. Most importantly, they shared a commitment to perfection.

During their discussion, Frank noticed a design sketch book on a nearby table. Intrigued by the hundreds of sketches that Brad had created over a ten-year period, Frank encouraged Brad to allow Pollaro to transform his drawings into three-dimensions. Brad enthusiastically agreed to move forward. In reviewing the sketches, they selected what would become the initial pieces of the Pitt-Pollaro collection. In Pollaro’s design department, the furniture was engineered, and the sketches were translated into shop drawings and photorealistic renderings. Brad visited Pollaro’s shop frequently to review the design engineering process, make revisions, and select materials from Pollaro’s museum of rare materials.

Over a four-year development period, driven by their common vision of unequalled quality, Brad and Frank created the Pitt-Pollaro collection. Designed by Pitt, built by Pollaro. They dedicated hundreds of hours to meetings where Brad’s vision of design was balanced with Pollaro’s legendary craftsmanship. Prototypes were created, revised and recreated until Brad was satisfied with every detail of the design, and Pollaro was confident of the comfort and integrity of each piece.

Every piece in the Pitt-Pollaro collection is hand crafted. All are limited editions and are numbered and signed by both Pitt & Pollaro. Since all of these pieces are custom made, the client may have input as to the materials and finishes that fit their decorative taste and complement the remaining furniture in the room. As you peruse these 21st Century designs, notice the fluid lines, pleasing proportions, and unequalled material selection."

above: Studioastic.com of Austria was hired to create this product visualization featuring Corcel's N°1

Corpo Celeste – a heavenly body
The first product to be introduced by Salzburg's innovation and design company, Corcel, is a luxury tub made of carbon fiber. From a material for purely functional applications, to one used in the luxury design of baths, carbon has found its way from space travel and motor racing to Corcel.

The bath manufacturer Corcel is distinguished by high-tech methods in conjunction with solidly hand-crafted products. Only top quality fabrics are used in the manufacturing of designer products.

Using elaborate CAD/CAM and autoclave technology and meticulous craftsmanship, the fine carbon fabric is processed into sumptuous designer furniture for the bathroom.

The No.1 is the first product from Corcel – an object of desire offering clean lines, generous space and distinctive character. It was selected from among 24 concepts submitted by artists and designers. The development process took about seven months and is manufactured from a selected prepreg carbon fabric.

After curing in an autoclave, it is given a last polish in the meticulous hands of our craftsmen. It is finished with a surface coating that otherwise is found only in the high-end sector of luxury cars.

Thanks to the materials’ properties, the No. 1 benefits from improved heat-retention features, compared with acrylic baths and ceramics.

Facts about the tub:
• The N°1 of 2011 is with 51 pieces strictly limited.
• A carbon fibre has a diameter of around 3-5 thousandths of a millimetre.
• Corcel uses only the highest quality fabrics in the production of design products.
• The N°1 is 2,43m long, 1,23m wide und 0,64m tall.
• The N°1 has 330 litres capacity.
• The development time of the N°1 lasted 7 months.

Limited edition
The product is redesigned annually. And each year, only 51 individual pieces are produced worldwide. Each one carries a certificate and is identified as an original. Due to the complex processes involved in the production, the lead time to delivery can be six weeks.

Towards the end of 2011, the company is expecting to launch a comprehensive line with all the necessary fixtures and furnishings for a luxurious bathroom.
