Neon Valentines By Tracey Emin Take Over New York's Times Square.

Not only does this public art installation in New York's Times Square add some colorful romance to the city, but by snapping a pic of yourself amongst it and sharing it, you get a chance to win a digital limited edition by Tracey Emin, and that's something to set one's heart a-flutter.

The installation, "I Promise To Love You"

s[edition], the online platform for the world’s most renowned contemporary artists to sell their digital limited editions, brings celebrated British artist Tracey Emin to Times Square throughout February.

“Every year I send valentines. This year I won’t have to. Times Square will do it for me,” said Tracey Emin. The title is her promise to love NYC, as well as individual promises to love one another.

The artwork, a dazzling visual valentine, will be shared with New Yorkers and visitors as part of a synchronized program on over fifteen of the largest digital displays in Times Square.

“I Promise to Love You”, premiered on February 1st and plays throughout the month as part of the “Midnight Moment”, a presentation of the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts. s[edition] helped bring these works to Times Square and they will all be available for sale simultaneously and exclusively at [s]edition.

Poison On A Stick. Gangredine Consumptus by Rotganzen.

Gangredine Consumptus, a project by a Rotterdam based artist collective Rotganzen, is a commentary on all the toxins and chemicals we put into our bodies. The words of such lethal poisons as radon, arsenic, benzene and tobacco are cast in translucent colored resin and placed upon wooden sticks so they resemble lollipops (or suckers or lollies, depending upon your country of origin).

As they appeared in Rotganzen's solo show with Collection I at Dek22 Rotterdam, 2011:

Metalmorphosis Moving Water Sculpture by David Černý.

Most recently you may have heard the name of Czech artist David Černý during the London Summer Olympics as he was the artist who created the London Double Decker "push-up" bus, Booster (shown below).



A piece of which I was not a fan, I thought I'd share with you something of his I do like. Metalmorphosis is an imposing kinetic installation of a giant head that spits water. Part sculpture, part fountain and wholly impossible to ignore, the piece is 30 feet tall and weighs 14 tons.

David Černý

The 2012 ArtPrize Winner Adonna Khare And A Close Look At Her Mural.

ArtPrize has become the world’s largest art competition by combining $560,000 in total prizes with an open call for artists, venues, and critics. This year's first place winner, "Elephants" by Adonna Khare is an illustrated series of life sized Elephants, intertwined with a menagerie of animals. (Links to all the finalists are at the end of this post).

The large mural was setup to function as a triptych and engage the viewers in the transformation of the work. The triptych is still a work in progress. Below are many images and details from the piece (courtesy of the both the artist and ArtPrize).
