Wild Modernist Home For Sale. I Mean Reeeeallly Wild.

This single family Hollywood Hills home, built in 1990, has been on the market for a few months now and is listed at $1,995,000 (recently reduced by $200,000).

Without a doubt, the home is very polarizing in its appeal. The 2,490 square foot single family residence, which sits upon a 7,650 sq foot lot, has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and some of the most unusual interior and exterior architecture I've ever seen. Filled with ultra modern furnishings, textiles and art (some stunning, some hideous) I've never seen another home quite like it.

The exterior is that of a very modernist style. Multiple sharp planes jutting out here and there, outdoor catwalks, mitered glass windows, rooms that open to the backyard with curtains. The swimming pool has a cement deck which actually hovers over the water, a wonderful terraced space for entertaining complete with built in outdoor grill, and black stairs descending to the lower level.

The exterior of the home on the ground floor opens into the interior:

Inside the home is filled with unusual jutting angular walls, interior windows that allow you to look from one room to another, angular ceiling beams, black interior walls and ceilings with pin spot lighting, interior catwalks with glass railings, cement flooring, white interior doors, wood log interior walls, giant plate glass windows, and lots of built ins.

The piece of art shown in the image above (and below) is by a Russian artist I have profiled here.

Recently reduced by $200,000, the asking price is $1,995,000.
The home is located at 3391 Ledgewood Drive in Los Angeles, CA. in the east Hollywood canyons:

A Look At The 2011 Lavazza Calendar, 'The Making Of' And 'Behind The Scenes.'

above: Celebrity Olivia Wilde and her husband Tao Ruspoli make an appearance in the 2011 Calendar

The 2011 Lavazza Calendar is out now and this year it captures the romance of "Falling In Love In Italy" as seen through the photos of celebrity photographer Mark Seliger amongst the beautiful backdrops of Italy's cities and countrysides.

The annually produced calendar, which is not available for purchase but instead is designed for Lavazza's clients, has bimonthly shots that feature six couples engaged in love, including actress Olivia Wilde and her husband Tao Ruspoli, with Italy as the backdrop.

The Cover:

In a typically Italian cafe, a modern Cupid is enjoying a Lavazza espresso to pick himself up, before beginning his workday.

Blown by the breeze, snow-‐white veils strike against a light-‐blue Mediterranean sky, interpreting a true Neapolitan love story.

Verona: the famous lovers’ balcony and a modern Romeo, who unexpectedly dropped down from the sky, with his parachute on a sculpture shaped as a coffee cup.

July- August, Tuscany:

Olivia Wilde talks about her marriage and appearance in the 2011 Lavazza Calendar:

The theme Falling in love in Italy is a statement that Lavazza has been proudly promoting for years, thanks to a series of international photographers, through the pictures of its advertising campaigns, linked to the company’s famous calendar and enjoyed by people all over the world.

Three Calendar pictures (Naples, Tuscany and Venice) were chosen to convey the mood and sensuality of a couple falling in love, captured by Seliger and enhanced by the perfect backdrop of “cult” Italian landscapes in which Lavazza espresso is both an ingredient and a protagonist of the romantic atmosphere and Italian way of life. This last element is inextricably linked to the quality and experience of the brand in the world, which Seliger has interpreted by including a Lavazza espresso in every shot.

The press and poster campaign will cover 16 countries.

As in Lavazza’s previous international campaigns, the 2011 campaign will allow the public to enjoy pictures with great artistic value. They are a kind of open-‐air art exhibition that describe the glamorous, seductive world of Lavazza coffee.

The visuals will be enhanced by the pay-‐off, The Real Italian Espresso Experience, which underlines not only the Lavazza tradition and its sense of belonging, but also its drive towards innovation and internationality, revealed by the attention focused on the espresso "ritual” of which Lavazza is the standard-‐bearer.

Fun With Skype Screen Grabs By James Callahan.

I figured it wouldn't be long until we began seeing more and more 'art' made from the latest tech apps and devices. We've already seen a wonderful series of illustrated versions of You Tube's most popular videos and seen how the New Yorker Magazine has featured covers created with an iPhone painting app.

Now, UK advertising art director, illustrator and photographer James Callahan has had some fun with screengrabs of his Skype video chats. His ongoing project which he calls Screengrabography is simply his superimposing of screen grabs from Skype chats over stock photos or art.

They are not super impressively composed or even that inventive (men's heads on women's bodies), but they are fun nevertheless and certainly simple enough for almost anyone to do. The results are good for a chuckle. And may just inspire you to start making a few of your own.

Extra points to James' friends Daisy and Joseph for being such good sports.

See James Callahan's portfolio here which includes some very impressive advertising and design work.
