A Look Inside And Out Of The Incredible Rentable Sliding House In Nova Scotia.

Completed in 2008, this fabulous and unusual Sliding House on Canada's coast is a 1,700 square foot residence that was commissioned by creative directors David Peters and Rhonda Rubenstein and designed by architect Brian Mackay-Lyons.

Unusual on the outside, both for its sloping design -the home is placed on an eight degree slope and has views of the sea- and corrugated aluminum exterior, the inside is just as eye-catching with its beautifully designed and decorated interior (tons of photos shown later in the post).

The exterior is covered in industrial metal corrugated cladding. A thick north service wall containing stairs, baths, kitchen, hearth and storage protects the house from cold north winds.

It is available for weekly renting and sleeps four with its large master bedroom, loft area, fully equipped kitchen, enclosed fireplace, flatscreen TV, DVD player, and high-speed internet access.

The interior is entirely finished in unbleached clear poplar hardwood and is impeccably decorated with sophisticated furniture, modern lighting and high end appliances.

Nearby activities include whale-watching, horseback riding, sailing, golfing, fishing, fine dining and music and craft festivals depending upon the season.

Located in the coastal community of Upper Kingsberg in Canada, the home is a 90 minute drive from the Halifax airport.

Weekly rates are $1800 in the off-season and $2250 from June 26-August 27.

The Dune House. A New Stunning Modern Beach Home in the Village of Thorpeness.

Mole Architects has collaborated with the Norwegian firm Jarmund Visgnaes Architects on this beautiful modern beach house which is located just south of the picturesque village of Thorpeness in Suffolk. The Dune House can accommodate up to nine people with its five bedrooms.

You can book The Dune House for a weekend (3-nights, Friday to Monday), a mid-week break (4-nights, Monday to Friday) or a week (7-nights, Friday to Friday. Prices start from just £760 for a 4-night break (the equivalent of £22 per person per night).

“For us the most interesting tension was to create something that would not only fit in with the local landscape and ‘society’, but would also be refreshingly new”, says director Hakon Vigsnaes. “The gabled roof is particularly ‘English’ – not something you would find in Norway – so we wanted to make a feature of that.”

The roof, clad in a lightly tinted orange steel alloy, reflects the changing colours of the sea and sky and the panoramic windows on the ground floor offer views of the sea, whilst giving the sense of the house being nestled in the dunes. JVA wanted to create more than just a space for sleeping upstairs, so each of the four double bedrooms has a bathtub in it, with windows carefully positioned so that one can lie in warm water and take in views of the North Sea and surrounding meadows. Separate shower and toilet facilities are attached to each room and there is a small library and roof terrace on this floor.

The home has four double bedrooms on the first floor (bedrooms 1 + 2 can be made up as twins), all with a bath in the room, and ensuite shower and WC. On the ground floor, there is one bedroom(with a single bed) and an ensuite shower and WC.

The ground floor, which comprises a living area, kitchen, terrace and further en-suite bedroom, is slightly sunken into the dunes to provide a sense of privacy and a measure of protection from the wind coming off the North Sea. Sliding doors at each corner further help to visually dematerialise the ground floor.

Polished concrete, glass and aluminium predominate on the ground floor, while the upper story is constructed from solid timber planks which are left exposed internally.

The House At Cannes: Modern Luxury In The South Of France

The House at Cannes opened its doors in October 2008, the newest addition to the award winning The House at.. series of exclusive boutique retreats. The height of elegance and state-of-the-art design finds a natural home overlooking the Bay of Cannes in one of the world's most glamorous destinations.

In the heart of the city's beautiful Historic Conservation District, the 200 year old villa has been restored and renovated to the highest specifications, with bespoke touches inside and out. The villa, with its creamy facade and imposing entrance, sits regally in mature gardens of palm trees and scented blooms, with an impressive vista to the sea and is a mere ten minute walk to the famous Croisette and the Palais des Festivals.

The House at Cannes is the premier choice as a film location, venue for fashion shows, gala parties, conferences and product launches. As a holiday retreat, it offers the best in modern luxury, with every need catered to individual taste for an unforgettable holiday on the Cote D'Azur.

The House sleeps up to ten people in its five en-suite bedrooms, each with bespoke cabinets designed and built by Jason Maclean of Maclean Interiors and Yusef Haniffa.

Design is a key element of the House and we are delighted to be working again with British Fashion House Eley Kishimoto, who have developed one off screen prints and wallpapers exclusively for The House at Cannes.

The House's living areas are the essence of comfort and style with a 10 seat tuft time sofa and a fully equipped kitchen and dining areas.

The bathrooms are the epitome of functional elegance, the best of British and Irish designers producing bathroom products under the moniker UsTogether have fitted the master bathroom with their ultra modern bathroom concept, the Ebb bathroom. The strikingly visual, flowing, structure of Ebb is akin to a floating ribbon linking each bathroom fixture.

The House at Cannes is proud to be the first property in the world to provide guests with this special bathing experience. (See a post on UsTogether and all their bathroom collections here)

All bathrooms are fully stocked with plush towels from The White Company as well as complimentary Kiehl's cleansing products and fitted with Vola and Boffi fixtures, including their innovative "pipe shower".
