Nespresso Commissions Coffee Cup Stain Portrait of Lucio Dalla in Milan.

I first introduced you to the beautiful and talented Hong "Red" Yi with her unusual portrait of Chinese film director Zhang Yimou created with 750 pair of socks. Most recently she was commissioned by the Milan Nespresso Boutique to create a portrait of the late Italian singer Lucio Dalla out of coffee cup ring stains.

Red, who is known for working in unusual mediums, created the piece onsite in Milan:

The piece will be displayed in the Milan Nespresso boutique, then given to the mayor of Bologna, who, according to Red, plans to hang it in a museum that they will be building for Lucio.

Jolly Green Giants: Metropolitan Reforestation Project In Milan Begins Construction.

After its initial design in 2007 by Italian Steffano Boeri's architecture firm Boeri Studio, Treehugger, Inhabit and Gizmag recently reported that construction of the Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) in Milan has finally begun. That intrigued me to do a little more research and bring you images of the original renderings , models and diagrams as well as some new construction photos.

With 24 floors (Torre E) and 17 floors (Torre D) respectively, the two residential towers will contain a total of 900 shrubs between 3 and 6 meters tall to help to absorb dust, smog and produce oxygen. The apartment buildings, examples of utilizing ecology in architecture, are expected to be completed next year and will include a restaurant, fitness center, parking garage, and rooftop garden.

CGI renderings and the architectural models of the towers:

The construction has begun at Via De Castilla & Via Confalonieri, Puorta Nova I-20100 in Milan, Italy:

description of the project from the architect's site:
Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) is a project for metropolitan reforestation that contributes to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory. Bosco Verticale is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city. It is a model that operates correlated to the policies for reforestation and naturalization of the large urban and metropolitan borders (Metrosbosco). Metrobosco and Bosco Verticale are devices for the environmental survival of contemporary European cities. Together they create two modes of building links between nature and city within the territory and within the cities of contemporary Europe.

The first example of a Bosco Verticale composed of two residential towers of 110 and 76 meters height, will be realized in the centre of Milan, on the edge of the Isola neighbourhood, and will host 900 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 m tall) apart from a wide range of shrubs and floral plants.

On flat land, each Bosco Verticale equals, in amount of trees, an area equal to 10.000 sqm of forest. In terms of urban densification the equivalent of an area of single family dwellings of nearly 50.000 sqm.

The Bosco Verticale is a system that optimizes, recuperates and produces energy. The Bosco Verticale aids in the creation of a microclimate and in filtering the dust particles contained in the urban environment. The diversity of the plants and their characteristics produce humidity, absorb CO2 and dust particles, producing oxygen and protect from radiation and acoustic pollution, improving the quality of living spaces and saving energy.

Plant irrigation will be produced to great extent through the filtering and reuse of the grey waters produced by the building. Additionally Aeolian and photovoltaic energy systems will contribute, together with the aforementioned microclimate to increase the degree of energetic self sufficiency of the two towers. The management and maintenance of the Bosco Verticale’s vegetation will be centralised and entrusted to an agency with an office counter open to the public.

Maison Moschino: Fashionable Fantasy Accommodations In Italy

You are probably familiar with the Moschino fashion brand and their three lines; Moschino, Moschino Love and Moschino Cheap and Chic.

But did you know they had a new and beautiful hotel in which you can stay? The Maison Moschino had it's formal opening in February of this year. In case you don't plan on popping over to Italy anytime soon, I'm going to show you some of their unusual and fantastical room and suite designs along with other images of the hotel.

The hotel is located in the old neoclassical railway station on Viale Monte Grappa, 12, that opened in 1840 for the Milan-Monza route. The hotel’s creative direction is led by Rossella Jardini and Moschino’s creative team.

The exterior facades were restructured to be faithful to the original structure, while the interior was completely interpreted in the Moschino style. Divided into four floors, the 65 rooms and junior suites are all different. On the ground floor, the hall and the bar welcome guests into the hotel.

The common thread connecting the rooms is a fairy tale theme. Whimsical and magical elements reminiscent of Enchanted Forests and children's favorites like Alice In Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood and Candyland are the themes of some of the rooms.

Walls climbing with ivy, beds covered in roses or ribbons and surreal hanging clouds can be found in various rooms, like those shown below.

The hotel interior, lobby and restaurant reflect Moschino’s distinctive style where the ordinary world is painted with a brush of surrealism.

The hotel also has a restaurant and a spa. The restaurant Clandestino Milano extends from the hall to the terrace, the Culti spa and the gym are located on the lower levels.

The restaurant menu proposes a selection of innovative dishes starting from breakfast: the delicious “Mos kit”, for instance, represents a culinary itinerary. It is offered in a choice of 4, 6 or 8 combinations and served in a precious box that humorously reminds of an elegant shoe box. “Mos kit” changes every day according to the seasons and to our chef’s different inspirations.

Irony is the theme that inspires Maison Moschino’s lunch menu and its aperitif, served as a toothbrush with an edible mint and coconut toothpaste and a saké and mint flavoured “mouthwash”.

The restaurant Clandestino Milano is open 7 days a week. Room service is available from 7 am until midnight. Cocktails and aperitifs are offered at the bar.

Maison Moschino is centrally located and within easy reach of the transport system. You can get to the nearest underground station, Porta Garibaldi (green line), in just five minutes by foot.

The green line is directly linked to the Cadorna station, where the MALPENSA EXPRESS shuttle leaves for Malpensa International Airport.

The hotel has some amazing special offers, tours and exclusive packages for design, theater and art lovers. See the packages here.
