David Yurman Tops Off Patron Anejo With A 24k Gold Embellished Dagger.

For the second time in a series of designer collaborations (the first was this 2012 Guitar Stopper by John Varvatos), Patron Spirits introduces a limited edition bottle stopper for this holiday season. The new collectible bottle accessory is crafted exclusively for Patron Anejo by Evan Yurman, Chief Design Director for David Yurman men's and timepiece collections. Patron's relationship with Yurman emerged from a shared commitment to understated luxury, meticulous craftsmanship and masculine elegance.

Die-cast in solid metal and electroplated in gun metal and 24K gold, the bottle stopper is an exceptional two-toned sword featuring elaborate metal carvings inspired by those depicted on the hand guards of 18th century Japanese Samurai swords; a reflection of Yurman's love for unique and rare objects, artwork and artifacts. Like Patron Anejo, Yurman's bottle stopper is bold, intricate and truly distinct.

"It was a thrill to work with Patron on this unique project," said Yurman. "Throughout time, armor and weapons have represented the highest artistic and technical ability of the artisans who craft them. For me, there is an inseparable parallel between a finely honed weapon and a beautifully crafted piece of jewelry – they are truly one in the same and a natural extension of the work that inspires me." This inspiration is unmistakable in the one-of-a-kind, sophisticated design Yurman created to adorn the iconic bottle of Patron Anejo.

Each bottle of Patron Anejo is handcrafted with recycled glass and produced with unparalleled attention to detail. Patron Anejo is a delicate blend of uniquely aged tequilas, all aged in small white oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months. Similar to winemaking, each vintage of Patron Anejo is carefully blended to produce a smooth and distinctive-tasting tequila.

The bottle stopper, which comes in a special limited edition gift box, will be available at select retailers across the U.S. in November 2013 for a suggested retail price of $59.99.

A Look Inside The Apple Apartments That Turned Beatles History Into Luxury Living.

Earlier this year, 94 Baker Street launched The Apple Apartments. A boutique, luxury development of 5 apartments within a building that formally housed the Beatles' Apple Records and Apple Boutique.

The apartments (which are now available to rent) launched in July 2013 with much fanfare, including a 1960's inspired psychedelic light projection on the building's exterior - as a nod to the original mural commissioned by George Harrison and painted over the Georgian building by art students in the 60s.

First, a little history:

As well as the base for The Beatles record empire in the late 1960s, the Apple Boutique was opened at street level and sold clothes and accessories.

The aim of the shop was, according to Paul McCartney, to create “a beautiful place where beautiful people can buy beautiful things" (this quote was projected onto the building during the launch). The launch party for the Apple Boutique in December 1967 was attended by John Lennon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Cilla Black and Kenneth Tynan.

The Apple Boutique was an early venture of The Beatles’ Apple Corps company. It was only open from December 1967 until July 1968.

During the heyday of The Beatles tenure, a psychedelic-style mural was commissioned by George Harrison and painted over the Georgian building by art students but planning permission had not been sought and the artwork was ordered to be covered in white paint to satisfy Westminster Council and the landlord, the Portman Estate.

The New Apple Apartments
Now, restored by the Malins Group the design theme for the luxury apartments  amalgamated the influences of the eternally stylish monochrome look on the runway for Spring Summer 2013; the 60's images from the Beatles days in occupation; and John Lennons 'Imagine' music video.

A Blue Plaque was erected on the 17th March 2013 to commemorate John Lennon and George Harrison.

The new plaque’s inscription reads: ‘John Lennon M.B.E. 1940-1980 George Harrison M.B.E. 1943-2001 worked here.’ M.B.E. stands for Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, an honor that Queen Elizabeth II bestowed on all of the Beatles back in 1965.

There are four two bedroom and a one bedroom apartment all benefiting from surround sound, comfort cooling/heating system, Sky TV and direct lift access to each flat.

Highlights of the exclusive apartments include: Diffused fresh air, heating and comfort cooling to all principle rooms, Multi Room Audio Visual System, Black solid wenge floors, Full height black wenge and white ice etched glass doors, with satin inlay, White ice etched glass pocket doors, Italian high gloss concealed kitchens with shark nose worktops, V&A designer sanitary ware, Marble slabs to bathrooms, Bespoke wardrobes with grey oak cabinetry, Velvet carpets and Designer feature wallcoverings.

The apartments were sold to Middle eastern investors just four weeks after the launch for £10.2 million and are being rented for between £750 and £1,150 a week.

"The investors have bought all five apartments, four two-bedroom, which were priced from £1.625,000 and £1.750,000 and a one-bedroom at £1.250,000, and the retail space at ground level. The apartments will be available to rent at the end of the year, for between £750 and £1,150 a week" according to agents Kay & Co, who secured the deal.

Lauren Atkins, MD of The Malins Group, whose development portfolio includes residential developments in Belgravia, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Mayfair and Westminster, said: “The Apple Apartments have a unique place in the history of The Beatles and the purchasers have bought the ultimate slice of memorabilia. We incorporated exceptional design and specification, with the very best materials and finishes. This has been a very special project and we are really excited that they have sold within a month of the launch. It is a great endorsement for the standards and quality of the work by the Malins Group.”

Available from November 2013. Photos shown in this post depict the show flat which is available on a furnished basis. Rent excludes administration fees of £300 inc. VAT plus £50 per person inc. VAT for referencing which is payable upon creation of a legally binding tenancy agreement.

Malaysia's Hottest New Hotel Is A Transformed Colonial Filled With Art and Whimsy: The Macalister Mansion.

This new 4,800 square meter hotel in Panang, Malaysia was just completed last year and has already garnered numerous awards from the most prestigious hotel and travel organizations. It is housed in a 100 year old historic mansion that has been adapted into a modern and hip, but luxurious dining room, living room, den, cellar (bar), lawn area, mosaic pool and 8 separate rooms complete with private baths.

The name Macalister Mansion honors Panang's British Governor Colonel Norman Macalister and there are numerous references to him in a host of specially commissioned art pieces found in and on the grounds of the mansion.

Designed and branded as a lifestyle oriented 'residence', the Macalister Mansion and the five F&B (food and beverage) and Hotel entities (rooms) that comprise it have been conceived as a single holistic vision by the Ministry of Design based in Singapore.

Led by its Design Director Colin Seah, the design differentiates itself from the local boutique hotel scene by its intimate scale, contemporary design and attention to details - design ranging from art curation to uniforms, branding to interior design and everything else in between.

Wall sketches in the livingroom, art in the bedrooms and whimsical animal sculptures permeate the hotel:

Set against the backdrop of a conserved mansion, the heritage spaces have been carefully adapted and key features conserved and infused with contemporary design, allowing the project to strike a balance between the nostalgia of the past and a vision of relevance for the future.

When Colin was first approached by the client Dato' Sean to conceive of a lifestyle based offering which would enliven the hotel and dining scene in Penang, it was readily agreed that the new offering in the restored colonial mansion would stem from a holistic vision, with the 8 rooms and the 5 F&Bs (formal diningroom, casual dining, the den, the cellar and the outdoor bar) forming a holistic brand with a distinctive positioning.

The design process spanned an 8 month period from February to September 2011, with Colin and Dato' Sean working collaboratively to produce a design for a stunning set of distinct entities offering sophistication in a singular package.

In the 12 months of construction that followed, there were multiple meetings held to discuss the major infrastructural work required to restore a colonial mansion, e.g. retaining and reinforcing original columns, staircases and archways, removing plaster to reveal the original brick walls and wall cornices, and repairing and soundproofing original windows for contemporary hospitality use. As an extension of the grounds, Colin and his team also masterplanned an event lawn where large-scaled parties can be hosted. Beside the lawn is a mosaic lap pool with a feature sunken 'swim-up' pool bar at one end. Guests of the hotel also enjoy additional gym, computer lounge and library.

The oversized sculptural bust of Macalister encapsulates the spirit of Macalister Mansion - the meeting of heritage and contemporary design. The 2.5m bust is the first art piece to greet you as you approach the mansion from along the hedge lined driveway.

It draws inspiration from traditional portrait busts of important figures but instead of the typical life-like features, Macalister's features are modernised by rendering them as sharp edged fractal lines - as if sculptured by computer aided design. The piece is constructed in fiberglass and spray painted a high gloss white finish.

The dining room of Macalister Mansion is conceived as a whimsical experience where the diner enjoys the formality of fine dining that is imbued with a contrasting fairy tale-like quality - pastel coloured deer graze around a tree while squirrels and birds perch on its branches. The pink, blue and yellow animals complement the all white dining room and are constructed from fiberglass and finished in high gloss paint.

The 8 rooms blend a minimal but comfortable contemporary style with beautiful Bisazza tiled bathrooms, light woods, unusual art and modern fixtures.

In this room the sonnet below is enlarged and embossed as art above the bed:

Another room features a modern chrome and wood post bed with built-ins:

This room has a large tiled bath separated from the sleeping area by the partial glass shower wall and a terrace that overlooks the pool:

One of the rooms has a spiral staircase and wire wall art of Macalister:

And yes, they offer a room with double beds:

A narrower room features an enormous bathroom opposite the bed:

And this room has both a glass wall separating the bathroom from the bedrooom and a partitioned seating area

and the last of the eight rooms:

So, if you've been planning a trip to Malaysia, consider the Macalister Mansion.
