A First Look Inside The Luxurious 50m (164ft) Papi du Papi Superyacht.
Back in July of 2011, ISA (International Shipyards Ancona) launched the aluminum and steel 50m (164ft) motor yacht Papi Du Papi, the second in a series of three new 50m yachts under construction at the Italian shipyard that share the same technical platforms, but differ in their superstructure and transom design.
The Limited Edition Z Boat by Zaha Hadid. Twelve Available, Priced At $464,511.33
American art dealer Kenny Schachter commissioned this limited edition Z Boat from Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid, with whom he has worked several times, for his ROVE projects.

Current plans are to produce the boat in a range of colors, including white, gray, and blue (though the black prototype model designed for Schachter himself will likely be the most popular).
The eight-meter vessel is fabricated of fiberglass and carbon fiber and is being built by French manufacturer Shoreteam in a very limited edition of 12, slated for availability in early 2013.

Hadid’s design statement reads as follows: “The asymmetrical design is sculptural in appearance while practically affording more seating accommodations. In a sense, the bespoke boat is as much a work of art as a Cisitalia sports car in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The idea is to think of vessels and vehicles as highly individualistic expressions of art, architecture and design reflecting the edge of what is possible using the most advanced means, including materials, software systems and methods of fabrication.”
Only 12 of these are being made and the price is $464,511.33 USD or €375,000.

The Expandable Yacht. The Wider 42’ and Their New Cote D’Azur Edition.
The automatically opening wider cockpit, patented by Tilli Antonelli, makes it possible to create an impressive walkable surface area of 18m² in the cockpit and a 6.6m width at waterline, unthinkable for a 42 foot yacht until now.
High performance and lightweight, Wider has been built by exploring brand new vacuum infusion moulding techniques for carbon and vinylester resins, also used in both Formula 1 and the aerospace industry.
The resulting product is particularly aerodynamic, and features two strong points: maximum efficiency and minimum waste. These aims have also been achieved through the shape of the hull, produced according to the stepped hull – typical of racing yachts – method. Creating an air cushion between the surface of the sea and the hull, the yacht rises up slightly, maintaining a highly dynamic sailing trim.
When opened out, the central cockpit of Wider 42’ features a flat, usable surface area of over 18 m2 - the equivalent of the cockpit of a megayacht - and a floatation width of 6.6 m. Besides creating additional space aboard, this feature also guarantees excellent stability and comfort as the mobile extensions of the hull are lowered into the water.
The mobile extensions are opened and/or closed by means of an automatic, electronically controlled system, meaning both the single and contemporary open and closing operations of the mobile extensions takes just 12 seconds.
The Special Cote D'Azur edition
The new Wider 42’ Cote D’Azur Edition represents an evolution of the original model, a new version the conception of which has been possible thanks also to the precious suggestions of Monaco Boat Service and in particular of Mrs. Lia Riva, who has been contributing to the success of European pleasure boating.
The evolution lies in further lightening the yacht where the use of carbon is again a fundamental ingredient. The new layout of the cockpit provides for a great flexibility thanks to interchangeable solutions, where a lunchtime dinette has been fitted out in the centre of the cockpit – the very heart of the boat – entirely made of carbon, with a table that is raised electrically and can be turned into a comfortable sundeck or smart chaise longue.
To service this area a unit equipped as an outdoor galley which includes a sink, large central work surface with teppanyaki griddle and a 51 lt. movable ice-box has been designed so owners and their guests can have soft drinks and fresh fruit to hand at all times. A ceramic glass burner and a 50Ltr. built-in fridge can also be added on request.
The new layout of the external furnishings makes it possible to accommodate up to 12 people seated comfortably. Moreover, the driving console now has additional space where essential items for life onboard, such as sun cream, mobile phones and sunglasses, can be stowed.
“After having presented Wider 42’ to the public on various official occasions, organised many sea trials in both Europe and the United States and sold a number of boats, we listened to the comments made and noted the recurrent demands of those we spoke to in order to design the final layout of the cockpit. The new set up has been designed to make time spent onboard even more comfortable, creating a highly sociable and flexible environment,” declared Tilli Antonelli, President of Wider, “further emphasising the party boat nature that has characterised this 42 footer right from the off.”
Her lines characterised by well-known designer Fulvio De Simoni, the new Wider 42’ inaugurates the fleet and launches the wider cockpit category, proposing herself as a day-cruiser with strong design features, to be driven and enjoyed in an extraordinary mixture of adrenalin and fun. She is ready to transform and adapt to many different demands and offer a wide range of solutions for guaranteeing comfort and stability which were previously unthinkable in a yacht of this size. Wider 42’ is one of a kind as she is able to double the usable surface area of the cockpit and achieve astounding stability in just 12 seconds, thanks to two extensions either side of the hull operated by means of an automatic patented system.
Cutting Edge Technology and Low Consumption Performance
Wider epitomises the modern concept of energy saving, focussing on using engines and aerodynamic shapes in materials able to guarantee huge savings in consumption and a lower environmental impact. This has been possible thanks to the shape of the so-called stepped hull which enables the yacht to maintain a highly dynamic sailing trim, improving performance and guaranteeing constant visibility.
The stepped hull, in fact, comes from racing yachts, whilst it is still rather unusual in pleasure boating. It is by no chance that the design of the Wider 42’ hull was entrusted to Mark Wilson, one of the top experts in the field of racing yachts, who also designed those with which his son won the World Championships three times, once in class P2 and twice in class P1.
The excellent weight/power ratio of the Wider 42’ enables her to reach a top speed of 50 knots and a cruise speed of 40 whilst registering consumption of just 110 lt./h for the two 480hp Cummins engines. The result is a range of over 350 miles at 40 knots, previously unthinkable for a yacht of this kind.
Versatility, design, comfort and new materials
The versatility of the various environments characterizes both the cockpit furnishings and interior layout of the boat, which guarantees complete comfort during a day at sea. Going down into the cabin, there is a kitchenette to the left, with a double fridge unit, freezer and ice-maker totalling 160 lt., a work surface with sink, ceramic glass hob with one burner and housing for an optional microwave above.
The dinette is furnished with C-shaped seating with upholstery which can be personalised facing a flat screen LED TV- The seating can be turned into a large, comfortable double bed in case of need, in order to guarantee complete comfort during the night, too:
To the right there is the head, fitted with a large crystal shower cubicle, washbasin and carbon toilet, in line with the rest of the essential, modern furnishings:
The classical cabinets for stowing belongings have been replaced in the living area with leather bags in which those onboard can pack all they need for their stay on the boat at home, and then hang them on the broadsides and take them home at the end of the cruise, instead of cases:
The more efficient layout of the reworked cruiser means that it can now accommodate 12 passengers, though its starting price remains around $1.12 million.

Sleek, Solar, Sexy and Super High Tech. The Latest Images of The Code-X Yacht.
The "CODE-X Yacht" was featured in its early stages on just about every design blog years ago. Since then, it's actually come to reality and I wanted to share the latest images of the "Next Generation CODE-X Yacht" with you. (Info, specs and earlier images of the yacht are after the newest photos).
CODE-X AG and SILICON-FIRE AG bring drive technology to a new level with the Next Generation CODE-X Yacht.
From the Code-X site:
CODE-X AG, the swiss company based in Meggen on Lake Lucerne, started with the goal of developing products with maximum exclusivity that use renewable energy sources to serve a common good in the mid to long term and serial production maturity subsequent to further development.
These high-end products with added value go far beyond the common perception of luxury goods. The brand represents well developed and technologically exceptional concepts and products which have an obligation to the environment. They also give their buyers a role as pioneer and frontrunner on the path to a cleaner, more environmentally friendly future.
The CODE-X-YACHT is the first product to celebrate its world premiere this year with a synthesis of solar technology and Formula 1 engines meeting the highest standards.

Motor Boat & Yachting had this to say about it:
The Code-X presents the helmsman with a terrible ethical dilemma. You can either use the environmentally impeccable solar/hybrid drive, which gives a cruising speed of just a few knots, or you can turn the key on twin 710hp Ilmor engines, combined with ZF Trimax propeller drives, for a considerably sexier but not-quite-so-green 90 knots. Despite MBY's heartfelt commitment to combating global warming, we know which we'd chose.
Either way, this ultra-modern machine is a far cry from the electric plodders occasionally seen on the UK's rivers and canals. Controlled throughout by touch screen, the Swiss design boasts a Kevlar/carbon shell with phototropic-shaded screens and windows, one of which raises to let the cocooned passengers, or should that be astronauts, out into the fresh air.
Inside an LED illumination system "ensures optimal night viewing" and there is solar-powered air-con and a whirlpool bath. Don't worry if you think all that black carbon is going to heat up in the Med sunshine: the deck is UV-resistant with a heat-repellent shell and you can opt for a lighter shade hull.
Code-X are also lining up a new racing series called Formula Clean. They will manufacture, at their own expense and parallel to the production of the limited Code-X leisure series, another fleet of seven boats carrying only renewable energy. Sounds like quite a fun way to save the planet.
