The Baby C Cradle - A Modern Walnut Wood-Lined Womb For Infants.

The Baby C is a modern cradle inspired by the warm, closed environment of a mother’s womb. With a polyethylene shell and a walnut wood interior, the cradle comes with a specially designed mattress.

Baby Cradle Becomes Two Rockers When It's No Longer Needed.

Designer Martin Price, a 2009 graduate from Central Saint Martin with a First-Class Honours Degree in BA Product Design, came up with the idea to design and craft a baby cradle that when outgrown or no longer useful can actually be sawn in half to become two functional rocking chairs.

The result is surprisingly attractive - both the cradle and the rockers are elegant and attractive pieces, each on their own as opposed to looking piece-meal.

The project grew out of his research and dissertation about looking into people's attachment to their possessions and understanding how they use objects to trigger memories of events and stories in their lives.

The piece was created in his workshop using ash wood with a foam mattress:

Modern & Luxurious Baby Furnishings from Baby Suommo of Spain

above: The Moveo by Baby Suommo

BABY SUOMMO of Spain, sets a new standard in the field of luxury baby cribs, bassinets, cots and more by combining hand-crafting, fine woods, comfort, reliability, resistance and safety with a high degree of artistic design.

Each above item is described in detail with images after the video.

BABY SUOMMO at the Kind + Jugend 2010:

The DoDo bassinet, Moveo rocking crib, La Perla luxury crib and Grand Sonno convertible cot are perfect examples of their applying modern aesthetics, technology, comfort and luxury to design.

The Dodo Bassinet:

DoDo provides a safe, comfortable, warm and soft nest, facilitating the transition from mother’s womb to outside world perfectly. The interior bedding is finished by hand in natural silk and the exterior is made with the finest woods, polished to a glossy white finish.

The DoDo is equipped with 360º multidirectional wheels and moves extremely quietly, thanks to its new and original design which is made out of one piece.

The Moveo Rocking Cradle:

MOVEO is a new cradle-minicot concept. Its innovative design allows an experience of dynamism and mobility along with more stability and safety.

Designed for a better air circulation, the BabyAirflow system, provides a suitable atmosphere for the baby. If you prefer, you can move MOVEO with its 360º multi-directional wheels.

The La Perla Crib:

LA PERLA, beyond its splendid exterior, provides a considerable amount of engineering innovations. The volumes in their absolutely new shapes, the select varnishes or the exquisite handmade interior finish in natural silk, providing a perfect padding to protect your baby.

Their crafting experience and knowledge of fine woods allows Baby Suommo to emphasize the character of the materials. Perhaps that is the reason why every aspect of the manufacturing process of LA PERLA is designed to achieve an amazingly elegant and sophisticated crib.

The Grand Sonno convertible bed:

This cot transforms itself into a bed, a desk or a free arrangement set of four shelves. With its 360º multi-directional wheels and hand finished silk, it is made to assure a high degree of sturdiness and resistance along with comfort.

GRAND SONNO incorporates the SafeBlock protection system, avoiding the risk of the cot’s rail to fall towards the inside. Thanks to its manufacture in one piece, free of toxic adhesives, and the external assembly system with 30 mm supports, it provides more than three times more resistance and protection.

Drill Baby, A Narratively Tattooed Infant From Jason Clay Lewis.

Artist Jason Clay Lewis, whose unusual work I have blogged about before when I featured his Drop Dead Gorgeous exhibit and his wonderful engraved bullets, has given birth to yet another compelling project.

His "Drill Baby" (the name of which is undoubtedly a nod to Sarah Palin's oddly foreboding rallying cry "Drill, Baby, Drill") is a lifelike infant tatted with the victims and the symbolic perpetrators of the horrendous BP offshore drilling disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

above: Drill Baby and detail, Jason Clay Lewis, 2010. 18 1/4" x 9 1/4" x 6 3/4"

Made with vinyl rubber, mohair, oil paint, plaster and aluminum armature, the hyper realistic-looking newborn seems to sleep blissfully and innocently as the images on his body tell us another story.

The infant has artfully drawn tattoos of some of the tragic oil spill's most innocent victims - Pelicans and Seagulls - along with the clicheéd tattoo imagery of Koi, swimming in blackened waters, aligning his arms.

On his right inner thigh is a clipper ship (a recurring theme in Jason's work representing plagues), complete with floating oil barrels and an idyllic deserted island blackened by an oil spill. An Eagle or Falcon, in the midst of attack made, talons exposed, swoops in on the infants left inner thigh.

Least subtle, is the image of a religious figure (the Virgin Mary is another icon the repeatedly appears in Jason's work) grasping a dripping gas nozzle, the representation of the product that is at the core of the political, economical and ecological tragedy. Notice that the infant's nipple becomes her breast.

Jason Clay Lewis' work often combines fetishes and death with religious symbolism. The artist currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Cynthia Rowley Collaborates With Pampers For Designer Diapers

After the launch of their competitor's Denim Huggies, Pampers has jumped on the designer diaper bandwagon and collaborated with fashion designer Cynthia Rowley to create 11 new designs for beautiful baby bums.

The new chic styles of Pampers, shown above, include pastels, stripes, madras, pockets and prints and should be available in Target stores beginning in mid-July.

"As a mom, I wanted other moms and dads to have more options in every part of their lives -- even diapers," said Rowley. "It's the first piece of clothing your baby will ever wear, and it should be special."

Jodi Allen, a P&G baby care vice president, says in a statement Wednesday that diaper performance comes first, but parents consider the look important, too.

"Of course parents want the very best for their little ones," said Jodi Allen, Procter & Gamble's vice president of North America Baby Care. "We also know that sometimes it's the little things – like how a baby is clothed – that can bring added joy to Mom and Dad. While performance always comes first, we know that design is also important to parents. We're pleased to introduce the first diaper line that brings together the best of these two worlds."
