Aston Martin Celebrates 100 Years With Special Logo, Short Film, Big Stunt and 100 Exclusive Centenary Editions.




2013 marks 100 years since the founding of Aston Martin by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin. By incorporating their new company they began 100 years of Power, Beauty and Soul. To celebrate the anniversary, they have created a new logo, a short film, a spectacular stunt in Dubai and have created 100 special sexy Centenary Editions of their V8 Vantage, DB9, Rapide and Vanquish.

To mark the Centenary year and to ensure consistency of interpretation, Aston Martin has developed a visual expression in the form of the Aston Martin Centenary Logo.

The dynamic shape derived from nature’s nautilus shell, is made up of 99 points with the red 100 marking the celebration year.

The design represents the Centenary of the company in the shape of commemorative points aligned in perfect proportion around the Aston Martin logo. It is a dynamic expression of forward motion - acknowledging the past, yet with a strong and positive path to the future.

The points are symbolic not just of 100 years, but as an expression of what make the marque what it is today: the beautiful and iconic sports cars, the evolution of the brand and of course the many proud and dedicated people who have created it.

The Dubai Centenary Spectacular Stunt
The Dubai Centenary Spectacular at Burj Al Arab was an event created to herald the Anniversary.



The New Vanquish, the culmination of a century of technological and engineering progress was chosen to grace the helipad of the Burj Al Arab hotel, one of the most iconic buildings in the world.



Lifted from the ground at a nearby airstrip the helicopter moved towards the hotel. A breathtaking two minutes saw the helicopter hover over the helipad as a crew scrambled to secure the Vanquish. Suddenly it was done, the helicopter lifted into the sky and we had successfully placed a car on top of the helipad of the Burj Al Arab, which sits over 1,000 ft in the air.



Exclusive Centenary Editions
Aston Martin's Centenary Edition Vanquish has been unveiled, just one of a set of specifically created specifications which will adorn V8 Vantage, DB9, Rapide and Vanquish - with 100 exclusive examples of each being created in celebration of 100 Years of Aston Martin.



Bespoke Exterior Styling


Featuring a unique graduated paint finish, solid sterling silver Aston Martin wings badges with tailored ‘trans flux’ enamel inlay and a special Aston Martin hallmark, the exterior represents an exclusive new celebration of their 100-year history.

A Luxurious Treatment


A Centenary Edition Aston Martin is identified inside by its exclusive and luxurious treatment. Deep Soft black leather – previously featuring only in the One-77 hypercar – with contrasting silver stitching, a special silver thread embroidery of the Aston Martin wings in the head restraints and solid sterling silver sill plaques individually numbered with an Aston Martin hallmark are among the features unique to the car.

Exquisite Craftsmanship


The process of creating the unique Centenary Edition paint finish, for instance, clearly demonstrates the brand’s commitment to bespoke luxury. Adding an average of 18 hours to a paint process that can already take more than 50 hours to complete, the unique graduated finish is meticulously built by adding special ‘tinters’ to create the darker inner colour. This custom-made mixture is then applied to each panel by hand, using a special mini-jet spray gun.



Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman explained: “The team has looked closely at the individual contour lines of each of the cars to determine not only the right colours and shades, but also to create a template by which the paint changes from dark to light and where the graduated effect sits.”

Each Centenary Edition model will also be supplied with a unique presentation box containing a number of exclusive gifts to mark the first 100 years of the company. These include two glass keys, two bespoke key pouches made from leather matching the car’s interior trim, solid silver cufflinks featuring the Aston Martin script, solid silver Rollerball pen and high quality Bang & Olufsen headphones.

The gift box will also include a silver polishing cloth to help owners ensure the silver centenary wings badges and sill plaques on their car keep their lustre.

Big Spenders Drop $105,629 on a Bar Tab in One Night at The Cavalli Club, Dubai.




A receipt (shown above) from designer Roberto Cavalli's Club in Dubai's Fairmont Hotel, the Cavalli Club, dated January 2, which totalled $105,629, (AED 387,988) was published on social media sites Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday and has been spreading around the internet like... well, champagne.

The Cavalli Club was created by renowned designer Roberto Cavalli and hosts an Italian contemporary restaurant, sushi bar, wine and champagne bar, cocktail and cigar lounge and a boutique shop, all encased within black quartz and a six meter high Swarovski crystal curtains.



The bill, for a birthday party, from the exclusive club included a six-litre bottle of Cristal Champagne for $35,000.

Also on the bill were a couple of two-litre bottles of Cristal costing $19,000, 24 Diet Cokes at $6 a piece and 10 Red Bulls at $7.80 each, One 3 liter bottle of Cavalli vodka for $1,341 and four bottles of Chivas for $1,181.

The only food listed was a small birthday cake costing $32.67

Staff say the high spend is a regular occurrence in the club, with an average of 24 tables a year spending between $54,448.44 (AED 200,000) and $136,121.68 (AED 500,000) in a single evening. “Despite individuals and businesses feeling the effects of the downturn throughout 2011, Cavalli Club has seen high-spenders consistently frequent the venue,” said David Lescarret, operations manager at Cavalli Dubai.

“Last year saw an average of two tables per month spend between $54,448.44 (AED 200,000) to $136,121.68 (AED 500,000) in one night, and we expect this trend to continue into the New Year, with one customer already having spent just under $108,896.87 (AED 400,000).”

The luxurious nightclub said it stocks the most expensive champagne in the world - the Louis Roederer, Millennium Cristal Brut 1990, priced at a massive $136,121.68 (AED 500,000) for a single bottle. There are only two other Millennium bottles for sale around the globe according to bar managers, which can be found in London and New York.

Cavalli Club opened in Dubai in the Fairmont Hotel in May 2009, after Beirut-based investment company Pragma Group inked a deal with the Italian fashion designer to obtain the franchise rights for the brand.

Dubai's Own Little World... Literally.





The World, A series of man-made Private islands in Dubai representing the world map, created and developed by Nakheel was just finished last month.



Nakheel, one of the world's largest property developers, laid the final stone on the breakwater for The World on January 10, 2008. The last rock was one of 34 million tonnes of rock that were used to construct the 27 km breakwater which surrounds the 300 man-made islands that make up The World. The World team was on hand as the last rock was placed at 8:00am that morning by Director Hamza Mustafa.

This historic moment marked the completion of the first phase of one of Dubai's most talked about landmarks, which included land reclamation requiring 320 million cubic meters of sand dredged from the sea and the creation of the breakwater that surrounds the 9km wide and 7kms long island destination. The next phase involves handing over islands to developers for construction and building of infrastructure.

Last week the final stone on the breakwater for The World was placed and reclamation work was completed – exactly to schedule. With reclamation completed on time, Nakheel will be moving onto phase 2 of the development of The World. Islands are being handed over to individual developers who will shortly begin construction work on the individual islands. These islands are sold by invitation every year to carefully picked developers who will bring creative experiences to the island destination.

The World will become one of the most exclusive tourist destinations on the planet. From 2010 more than 40 luxury resorts will start to open. Different world class brands and names will offer fine dining, spas and luxury boutiques, idyllic vacation homes, spectacular marina, yacht and beach clubs and scuba diving, snorkeling and dive centres.


How big are these islands?
The islands will range from 150,000 square feet to 450,000 square feet in size, with the average island measuring approximately 300,000 square feet. The average distance between islands is 50-100 metres, with an average depth of water surrounding each island at 8-16 metres.

How much to buy an island?

* The World involves the creation of over 300 man made islands that are designed to represent the world map
* The vision for The World project was provided by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister and was officially released on September 21, 2003
* The islands will be built in the shape of the world map and consist of four protective breakwaters on the outer perimeters to provide shelter from long and cross-shore waves. The inner breakwaters will be a submerged reef and the outer breakwaters will be above water
* Located just off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, The World is located 4km off shore from a point halfway between Port Rashid and The Palm, Jumeirah
* Construction of The World commenced in September 2003, after many years of research. The project is scheduled to be completely raised from the sea in 2008.
* Investors will have the freedom to create their own personal vision on the islands for private or commercial use, whether it is for leisure, residential or tourist developments. The 300 islands will be offered for sale on a freehold basis to selected investors only
* Nakheel will hand over the islands to the investors once the land has been reclaimed in 2008.

* The main Contractors for The World are Van Oord ACZ Marine Contractors Gulf FZE - Dubai who are responsible for land reclamation, dredging works and the breakwaters. This is the largest project Van Oord has undertaken in the region
* The jumbo trailers being used to build The World can handle 20-25 thousand cubic metres of sand at any one time and require a water depth of at least 12 metres to operate.
