Le Royale Monceau Hotel. Now Transformed By Philipe Starck.

After undergoing two full years of important renovation work, Le Royal Monceau - Raffles Paris, which had closed down in June 2008, opened its doors in October of this year with a whole new look for the luxury hotel.

With new decor by Philipe Starck, only minutes from the arc de triomphe and a curated collection of art, it's no wonder it has quickly become THE place to stay.

Impelled by Qatari Diar and Alexandre Allard the creative director, designer Philippe Starck completely transformed the place and re-invented its spirit so as to make Le Royal Monceau - Raffles Paris the first hotel in a new generation of Parisian palaces.

The Royal Monceau Raffles Paris has produced a collection of over 300 works of art to be displayed in the guest rooms and the public areas. The project is to include contemporary art in the everyday life of the hotel, within a set of dedicated places like la Librairie des Arts, the Art District or Le Cinéma des Lumières.

The artistic program of the hotel is multidisciplinary, and accessible to everybody. The Royal Monceau Raffles Paris offers a cultural service through the art concierge and the hotel team.

The art concierge is in charge of coordinating this service unique in Paris, acting as an advisor and cultural mediator both to customers and the staff. The art concierge is there to guide the residents of the Royal Monceau Raffles Paris through their cultural journey in Paris, informing them of the artistic news and creating personalized activity programs.

Another Hip Boutique Hotel In Paris: The BLC Design Hotel

One hardly needs an excuse to visit Paris with the plethora of fabulous chic hotels popping up there; Hotel Gabriel, Philipe Starck's Mama Shelter and now... The BLC design Hotel.

Nestled in a quiet street close to the Palais de la Femme and a few steps from the Place de la Bastille, is the newly renovated modern BLC Design Hotel. Take a stroll to appreciate this old, historic Parisian quarter, from Place des Vosges, to Notre Dame & Opera Bastille, the bars, restaurants, theatres and fashion boutiques in the surrounding area. The Gare de Lyon and Bercy are just a few metro stations from the hotel.

This modern property has recently been entirely renovated and equipped with contemporary & refined furniture and details. The boutique hotel offers 29 very white, contemporary and feminine rooms designed by Carole Picard (who also decorated the Color Design Hotel in Paris), with special lighting effects to create the perfect mood for memorable stays.

The hotel’s 29 white-on-white rooms are equipped not only with light-blocking window shades, but also a Night Cove, a combination lighting and sound system, that, based on a French hospital’s sleep research, promises to put you to sleep or wake you up gradually with special light and sound sequences that act on the body’s production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin.

Standard room:

On each floor is a large photo of an ordinary woman by photographer Lise Laura Batifol, with a detail from the photo (an eye, for example as shown above) blown up in each room on that particular floor.

Double room:

The only touch of color in the hotel comes from the Patrick Jouin Night Cove lamps (shown above), which give off orange or red light when it’s time to go to sleep and blue light when it’s time to wake up.

Each room is decorated with a very high level of comfort: individual air-conditioning, flat screen TV with satellite, direct dial telephone, internet connection, bathroom (bath or shower). The buffet breakfast is served in a particularly attractive setting.

Guests can also help themselves at any time to drinks on the honor system or fill one of the attractive water bottles provided for free at faucets dispensing the hotel’s own eco-friendly bubbly or flat water.

Some of the unusual and artful details:

Standard rates start at around 120 euros

The Chicest Place to Detox (or Just Relax): Hotel Gabriel in Paris

Claiming to be the world's first "Detox" hotel, the new Hotel Gabriel has an overall soothing, white ethereal vibe. Complete with light emitting wallpaper, sleek and minimal, but comfortable, accommodations and completely techorated (that's 'tech' and 'decorated'- yes, my own term) with plasma tvs, iPod stations, LED lighting and unlimited wi-fi.

The rooms:

The bath:

Restaurant/lounge:

spa:

On their site they have a collection of photos they call 'architect drawings' which are ghost like composites (that female below is actually Drew Barrymore) and those are shown below. The text below is from their own website as well.

The zen-like and refined atmosphere contributes to its quiet sense of relaxation. The Hotel Gabriel Paris Marais is the first “Detox Hotel” entirely devoted to well-being and regeneration. The "Detox" concept focuses on internal ecology to purify the body, where regenerative sleep and healthy foods are essential ingredients.

The soothing, white decor in the rooms and bathrooms, the soft rugs and the comfortable, upscale bedding are complemented by cutting-edge technology with a plasma screen television, an iPod station, LED lights and unlimited Wi-Fi access.

The bar/lounge captures a surrealist decor where shades of white and comfort harmoniously blend. Antioxidant drinks and a wide selection of teas stimulate the body at a cellular level.

Massages and skin care treatments are available upon request and are a perfect supplement to the “Detox experience”.

A range of detoxifying treatments are available in our rooms, and we offer the NightCove* sleep system in our Glowing rooms.

*This sleep system provides a variety of light and sound programmes throughout the stages of your sleep cycle. Acting directly on the body’s melatonin levels, it provides a soothing, tranquil sleep. You can also configure it during the day (for naps?) and synchronise it with a computer to read mp3 files.

They are offering special rates for their opening, go here for more information.
