Cheez Whiz Graffitti and Other Perishable Logos By Dorota Pankowska
Brand logotypes are publicly executed on the streets and surfaces of downtown Brampton by artist Dorota (Dori) Pankowska using the actual product to create the art. From shaving cream to chocolate hazelnut spread, recognizable product names become a sort of graffiti whose time is limited.
The street art series is titled Pro Bono Promo, the name resulting from poking fun at the fact that these can appear as free advertising for the companies. Left up to diminish naturally over time, Dori says of "This has probably been my favourite project I've done so far."

Handcrafted Eco-Friendly Font Puzzles For Typophiles Hand Made in Italy.
above image is cropped
Fan of fonts? These beautifully designed and crafted painted plywood puzzles from Looodus are laser cut and hand-finished in the hills of Trivero in Piemonte, approximately two hour’s drive from Milan, Italy.
The puzzles are a true collaboration between designer and artisan, exploring the possibilities of computer aided design and hand finished products. A marriage of new technologies and pride in a craft handed down from father to son. Each puzzle goes through numerous checks to ensure a product which is precise and modern while being unmistakably artisanal.
Extreme care has been taken by Looodus to use a manufacturer who shares their values with attention to craft and quality while ensuring that the product is as environmentally friendly as possible. The process begins with the selection of wood used to create this beautiful piece. All the plywood is FSC (Forestal Stewardship Council) certified Poplar from the surrounding Padana Plane. This is where the majority of Poplar is grown for Italian paper and the carpentry sectors.
The concept for the Puzzle, like many of Looodus’ products, is born from observing the designer's baby daughter and her real life experience of being a first time parent. The Fonts were selected to be appropriate for their shape and size but also have a special place in the world of design. The colours have been checked and tested to offer a harmonious range across Green, Blue and Red.
“There are opportunities which arise every day to be creative and make quick fun toys for her, using the most rudimentary materials and sometimes these mini prototypes can become more refined products,” explains Kurt Stapelfeldt, Co-founder and Looodus Chief Designer.

The Graffiti Fishtank by Artist Dean Zeus Coleman
London Artist Dean Zeus Coleman (aka Zeus) is known for redefining traditional Graffiti with his three dimensional sculptures, paintings and typography. One of his unusual projects I simply had to share with you, given my fondness for aquariums, is this fabulous three dimensional graffiti typography fish tank.

From the back side as seen in an exhibit:
Zeus is incredibly talented and works in several different mediums. Here's a look at just a few of his sculptures, paintings and installations I find compelling:

Stefan Sagmeister Uses Kerry's Howley's Hair Art As Typography To Promote His Show.
To promote Stefan Sagmeister's "Another Show about Promotion and Advertising Materials" at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Sagmeister team (Stefan Sagmeister, Jessica Walsh, Michael Friemuth and Philip Hubert) actually shaved their heads...
...and worked with artist Kerry Howley (whose hair jewelry I wrote about here) to create the typography, made from hair, for these award-winning promotional materials.
The three posters are actually available as art prints here at Society6.

Biotypography part 2: Typosperma
Created by Oded Ezer, Typosperma
is the second experimental typo project in his 'Biotypography' series.
The first was blogged about all over the place.. Ezer turned 3D type into insect like creatures. (see below..)
Above: An image from Ezer's Biotypography 1 project
As a paraphrase on the biotechnology definition, 'Biotypography' is a term that refers to any typographical application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to create or modify typographical phenomena.
The main idea of the 'Typosperma' project was to create some sort of new transgenic creatures, half (human) sperm, half letter. These imaginary creatures are cloned sperms, that typographic information has been implanted into their DNA.
