About The Artist

Resembling artworks more than conventional fabrics, the contemporary creations produced by the Anne Kyyrö Quinn studio are not textiles as you once knew them. Cut, sewn and finished by hand, our unique choice of luxury natural fabrics are crafted into interior textiles designed to harmonise timelessly with any setting. Each product is conceived as a gesture of simplicity, yet, we make space for bold colours, rich textures and striking motifs.

Anne Kyyrö Quinn’s sculptural approach has pioneered a new genre of interior textiles based on three-dimensional structure rather than smooth surface ornamentation. Our products are based on a portfolio of eighteen core designs inspired by organic shapes and expressed with Scandinavian simplicity. Whether crafted into cushions, throws, table runners, wall panels or blinds, each design has a tactile feel that appeals to the eye as well as to the hand. As we merge twenty-first century design with textures inspired by the natural world, our products bridge the gulf between the urban interior and the natural landscape, and bring an elegant, unassuming beauty into everyday life.

Our commitment to design excellence makes Anne Kyyrö Quinn one of Britain's leading manufacturers of handcrafted interior textiles. Since the studio was established in 1999, our products and bespoke textile services have been distributed internationally to design showrooms and retail outlets, and marketed by independent agents. From our base in London, we provide a consultancy service for special residential or contract projects, working with architects, contractors and interior designers to create tailor-made pieces for a wide range of interior settings. As Anne Kyyrö Quinn’s products continue to gain acclaim in leading interiors around the world, our commitment to quality, innovation and design excellence travels with them.

Anne Kyyrö Quinn also offers a com- mission service to interior designers, architects and private clients. This service offers clients highly individual work that meets specific requirements.

Meet Rasmus Fenhann: A Contemporary Craftsman

In my usual scouring of the web, I came across a young and very talented craftsman named Rasmus Fenhann. His work is beautiful and I wanted to share it with you.

He's been the recipient of many danish design awards and has had his work commissioned for several projects and is a gifted antiques restorer as well. He also does custom work.

Theatre chair
Graduation design project by Rasmus Fenhann
laminated Maple veneer, Stainless steel, H:850 W:600 D:600

This chair is made for the new National Theatre that is going to be located near the harbour in central Copenhagen.

Rasmus says "I wanted to make a chair that looks light in the space as an individual element. The chair is saving space so that the audience can come closer to the actors. It is possible to make the chair with upholstery inside for concert hall acoustics."

He makes other beautiful wood furniture products and custom commissions as well. The custom pear wood Architect's Portfolio he made for his sister way back in 1997 is stunning.

His hiKARI collection (2005) of lamps crafted of Oregon pine are an elegant homage to japanese lamp design:

Lamps in Oregon pine:

The minimalist design comes from geometry. Rasmus Fenhann is using the old polyhedral shapes in a new way. The 6 lamps are made by equilateral polygons, which make the lamps simple, poetic and functional: the light is allowed to spread to all sides, and the handmade paper gives a soft and pleasant light.

J Schatz Hatches A Lot More Than Egg Designs. Great Modern Home Decor.

If you are familiar with the name J Schatz at all, it's most likely in conjunction with his beautifully designed, seen everywhere that's hip, Egg Birdfeeders. (seen below).

His own site states:
Using instinct and inspiration, J Schatz creates objects that bring wonder and joy to life through the creative and innovative use of the materials at hand. We are dreamers and explorers. Clay is the primary material that inspires us to create. We mold and sculpt clay into shapes that are pierced, scratched, carved, drilled, glazed and fired into beautifully finished products.

If you shop at DWR or shop at museum stores, then you may also be familiar with his Egg lamp:

If you actually read blogs like mocoloco or design*sponge then you may even know his Buff Humpty (seen below).

But did you know that he's hatched (forgive me, I couldn't resist)....

Egg Banks?

Egg Planters?

Egg Birdhouses?

Designing Color
The J Schatz Collection features ceramic ware that is finished in one of our 24 glossy colors. They hand apply the colors using method based techniques to ensure that each product has a dazzling surface. They do not retouch our product photography. What you see is what you get.

Are you aware of his Egg Table Lamps?

Tall Egg Table Lamps?

Egg Floor Lamps?

How about his Single Stem Egg Table Lamp?

Or the Triple Stem one?

How about Vases?

Okay, so eggs don't rock your boat?... keep reading....

2000
It began humbly in 2000 when Jim Schatz made the first prototype Egg Lamp in his East Village apartment in Manhattan. The kiln was the size of a hat box and the apartment was cramped. He sought refuge in the woods three hours from the city and purchased a kiln large enough to fire thirteen products at a time.

2007
J Schatz now has four kilns and employs four hard working artists who work hand in hand with Jim to create beautiful, glossy finished ceramic ware. Thousands of products have been sold to satisfied customers located throughout all fifty states and in 13 countries around the world. The company has eleven product lines: Buff Humpty, Cilindro Pendants, Egg Banks, Egg Bird Feeders, Egg Bird Houses, Egg Lamps, Egg Planters, Happening Curtains, Night Flight To Venus, Poodle Butts and Vases.

Then what about his "Night Flight To Venus" table lamps?

Or his Solid & Pierced Cilindro Pendant Lamps?

Or his "Happening Curtains"?

Certainly his Poodle Butts will make you giggle:

As a hands on ceramic manufacturer, J Schatz promises that each product that leaves thier studio is beautifully finished and offer each customer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. They design, create, assemble and ship all products from our studio in New York.
