Newd Adhesive Jewelry for the Body from Italy's Alessandro Masini.

Since I first introduced you to Italian brand NEWD in this post almost three years ago , the collection of safe self-adhesive jewelry has grown. With more more pieces and styles added to their five collections (and some no longer available), it was time to update my readers.

Newd was established in Florence in 2006 by Alessandro Masini. It’s the only company in the world that produces 'Skin Jewels'; adhesive jewelry that is applied directly to the skin. Glamour, innovation, sensuality, femininity, creativity and individuality come together for an exciting and trendy product that really goes beyond all standards.

For those of you who don't wish to permanently pierce or tattoo yourself , NEWD is a fun alternative for body ornamentation. They carry simple geometric shapes in various sizes, the requisite trendy shapes such as butterflies and hearts, and some bolder and more unusual pieces. White, rose, and yellow gold, polished or satin finished, gold-plated, enameled, embellished with pearls, Swarovksi crystals, precious stones and more can be applied on your back, neckline, arms, belly or wherever you deem desirable.

They have five collections of different shapes, styles and metals. Some are just simple silhouettes, some are adorned with Swarovski crystals and others with dangling gems. Here are just a few:

Once only available in Italy, you can purchase directly from NEWD here.

Church Keys To the City. Map-Engraved Beer Bottle Opener Necklaces.

Husband and wife design duo, Vivian Cheng and Eric Jean-Louis of Blend Creations have added some new designs to their inspired collections of modern stainless steel jewelry. Joining their designer artist pendants, bar code, QR code and custom photo necklaces are engraved pendants that double as a functioning bottle openers. The abstract looking patterns are maps of the birthplaces of eight well known and loved beers from around the world.

Now, no matter where you are, you can open a bottle in style. Better yet, if you find yourself drunk and wandering the streets of Amsterdam, you can just glance down and find your way to more booze.

Jewelry That Grows On You. The Incredible Landscape Jewelry of Sarah Hood.

Artist and silversmith Sarah Hood combines miniature scale railroad materials like plastic trees, grasses, bushes and pebbles with sterling silver to culminate is one of a kind pieces that are nothing short of wearable art.

Her expert metal work and unique whimsical style is why several of the pieces from her Landscape Series reside in the Tacoma Art Museum's permanent collection.

Below are examples of one-of-a-kind sterling silver rings, necklaces and bracelets made with miniature plastic trees - some spray painted black-, tiny phony bushes, greenery and in some cases, gemstones. Beautiful detailing in the cast silver twigs and touches like bird toggles accentuate the craftsmanship in these unique pieces.

Many of the following fabulous pieces are available for purchase.

In the artist's own words:

"For years I’ve been working within the intersection of archetypal form and the natural world, creating one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces from organic materials. In Landscape, I’ve taken a break from the real natural materials--leaves, pods, seeds--which have compelled my work for many years to create miniature, artificial worlds within the context of jewelry. Working with model railroad landscape materials lets me create tiny snapshots of the natural world, scenes that can trick the eyes into believing they are seeing something much larger. In several pieces, this deceit is challenged by the combination of these small constructed natural forms with full scale, cast sterling branches, buds and leaves which, in material, are equally unreal and illusionary." -- Sarah Hood, Jewelry Artist

In addition to her inventive landscape jewelry/art, she creates what one might consider 'more wearable' pieces in gold, silver and enamel. Earrings, bracelets and necklaces are available in her etsy store.
