Gold Balloons and Glass Top Coffee Table. The UP Coffee Table by Duffy London.

Duffy London design studio introduces the UP Coffee Table, a whimsical table with glass table top held up by gold glass and metal resin composite 'balloons' with steel rods as the 'balloon strings' and doubling as support.

Working with the illusion of levitation and buoyancy, the UP coffee table is a playful trompe l’oeil, giving the impression that a piece of glass is being suspended by small balloons.

This hand made table is a limited edition of twenty. Because it is designed without compromise, the tables are extremely time consuming to create.

"Growing old is compulsory, growing UP is optional" - Bob Monkhouse

Handcrafted Sycamore and Walnut Tables Shaped Like Nautilus Shells by Marc Fish.

UK Furniture craftsman Marc Fish has created two table designs inspired by the Nautilus Shell. His first, Nautilus I, was designed and crafted in 2010-2011 and awarded Guild Mark no. 435 by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. The Nautilus I has aluminium legs (photos are shown later in this post) while in Nautilus II, the base is formed of wood.

In Marc's own words he describes the brief as one calling for "a large statement piece, with maybe a hint of the sea - its location being a large loft style apartment overlooking the English Channel. An open brief from the client is every makers dream- room to explore, experiment and innovate. A new technique was developed to turn 4000 pieces of veneer strips into a 10 mm thick logarithmic spiral."

Materials used for the Nautilus I are Sycamore, Walnut, Japanese paper, glass and aluminum; for Nautilus II, Sycamore, Walnut and Glass.

Each was produced in an edition of 5, each unique in colour and style.

Periodic Concrete Coffee Table by James DeWulf Is A Formula For Hip Home Decor

James DeWulf of DeWulf Concrete (the very same craftsman who made this awesome concrete combination ping pong table/dining table) has designed and crafted this Periodic Coffee Table of low relief concrete with a powder coated steel frame.

The elements relief cast into the table are set in a square of polished concrete and are shallow enough so as not to tip over a glass or vase filled with liquid.

Measuring 54" long x 30" wide x 16" tall, the contemporary coffee table is available with a 1" or 1.5" concrete debossed and polished top (also available with a plain concrete slab top if you'd refer not to have it with the periodic table of elements) in either natural or smoke colors.

With an appointment-only studio in Santa Monica, the high-end precast furniture and architectural products from James DeWulf is available by contacting him via email or phoning him at 310-315-7100. Select pieces can be found at H.D Buttercup and other reputable furniture dealers.
