The Tramp Stamp Goes Upscale With CHANEL Temporary Tattoos

With the body art craze continuing to grow, it's no surprise that a luxury brand would capitalize on the trend. And it seems that french brand CHANEL is the first to market luxury temporary rub-on tattoos, LES TROMPE-L'OEIL DE CHANEL.

In the Chanel Spring-Summer 2010 Fashion Show in Paris, the models were not only sporting fashionable fabrics, but a series of temporary tattoos designed and applied by Peter Philips, the Global Creative Director for CHANEL makeup.

Chanel CD Peter Philips applying the body art:

They are now selling the fifty-five exclusive temporary tattoos, originally hand-drawn by Peter Philips. Artful images of CHANEL symbols and icons, including Oriental cherry blossoms, bejeweled Swallows, Chanel's double CC logo, strands of pearls, link chains and toggle clasps have been turned into rub-on body art. They add visual trompe l'oeil jewelry to the body in the form of classic ornamentation.

Yes, you can buy them.

Created as a special limited edition, the set of 55 of the applicable body art is now available for purchase from Chanel boutiques ($75), online stores and at Selfridges. They only take 30 seconds to apply and last a few days.

Deborah Sengl's Logo Pin Up Girls & Erotic Narratives

Much has been written about Austrian born artist Deborah Sengl's symbolic animal portraits, drawings and sculptures, which you can see more of here and her "Of Wolves And Sheep" exhibit but there are two other series of work that she's created that you might find of interest. I certainly do.

The first is a series of works clearly mocking the value we place on brand names by having them literally 'taking over' the female human figure in classic pin up poses. A commentary on our obsession with sex and branding.

The second is a series of erotic tapestries and assemblages (think Roy Lichtenstein meets Larry Flint). Some are assemblages of little plastic pieces glued together which are mocking 'ads' for sex toys, complete with the clicheés of advertising such as "NEW" and starbursts. Clearly illustrating society's preoccupation with sex in advertising.

Please note, the following images are inappropriate for those under 18 and NSFW.

Others are actual woven, embroidered or stitched narratives of orgies and oral sex, framed in heavy gilded classic frames.

Comenius Roethlisberger's Sweetest Invitation. Cocaine and Sugar Luxury Brand Logos.

There seems to be no end to artists combining fashionista with drugs. In addition to Tobias Wong and Big Game's Commentary on society's obsession with wealth and debauchery, provocative Swiss artist Comenius Roethlisberger has recently been exhibiting his latest commentary on luxury and society, “Dearest constellation, sweetest invitation” at Colette in France as well as at the Saatchi Galleries. The installation merges famous luxury brand logos with sugar powder and cocaine, all presented in clear polyester resin boxes, lit from below.
